And replace us with who, Abilene Christian?
Can understand if ODU is momentarily butthurt - and trying to figure how on earth they have slipped below W&M in BB (we have now won 5 of the last 6) - though the last thing ODU needs to be doing is brushing off OOC games with other teams in the State, particularly one that is a one hour bus ride.
They should be more concerned at this point that we don't schedule them (though I do like padding our OOC).

This is what happens when you do everything to get into FBS football without paying basketball adequate attention. Was a bowl win over Eastern Michigan really worth the downfall of the basketball product and playing in a weaker basketball conference?

I'm all in on the CAA, but right now both leagues are autobid only, and that's ultimately what matters for ODU. If they can figure out how to get back on track in MBB, they have basically the same chance of making the tournament, arguably better if CUSA is actually consistently worse than the CAA. FWIW, I'm not sure that Jeff Jones is a guy that will get them where they want to go.
So, "downfall" part no, but "weaker conference" yes.

I would think they will say yes. Clearly, football drove that train. My argument for about 5 years now was to what end? ODU, App St. and JMU are never getting a seat at the P5 table with soon their own championship. I just didn't consider competing for a FCS championship vs a low tier bowl as enough of a difference to justify the expense. It would be different if there were a regional football conference where ODU, JMU, App St, Georgia Southern, Richmond, Coastal and some others(maybe us?) played for a conference championship and then a playoff. Perhaps eventually that is where things will end up. But, major changes may be coming soon anyway to football. With ESPN losing massive subscribers every month and rights fees potentially taking a hit, it may become massive cash for the P5 and not much else. Plus, there is the medical dilemna for some with football. Basketball, at least, has neither issue currently with its smaller scholarship size and massive NCAA tournament rights fees. I personally love both football and basketball and hope W&M can be successful in both.

Five William & Mary players have two games with at least 36, and nobody has more than two such games. In addition to Thornton, Jeff Cohen scored 49 (the team record) and 38 in 1961, Bill Chambers scored 45 and 37 in 1953, Chet Giermak scored 45 and 36 in 1949, and Ron Panneton scored 38 once in 1967 and once in 1968.
Anyone who witnessed Marcus ring up 37 on March 8, 2015 in Baltimore knows that the game will be remembered not due to Marcus' scoring, but due to Mr. Daniel Dixon draining one of the biggest shots in Tribe hoops history.

And more impressively, it might be the only last second W&M possession that didn't result in our best player jacking up a contested, brick 3...

At least in that one Dixon shot a few seconds before the clock hit 0. Usually it is aimless dribbling of the ball and then firing up a shot with 1 second left, particularly when we are tied or have the last possession of the 1st half.
