The tired phrase “from a smaller school” is used while praising JFM. I know JMU fans on this board are as irritated as I am when we hear or read this slight. I rarely see this phrase used to describe players from other FCS programs. Why is this phrase continually in use when it comes to JMU? Are the writers/talking heads somehow off in their own lala land thinking a school named James Madison must be a tiny private school? Obviously, a university of 23k with a two-time D1 NC football program, that has hosted two recent ESPN Gamedays is only “smaller” if you’re comparing JMU’s FB program to P5 programs, but again the writers/talking heads don’t seem to use this tired phrase to describe other FCS/G5 schools.

By enrollment and physical size of the campus JMU is bigger than a lot of P5 schools.

JMU is a branding disaster - regional football, awful basketball, affiliation with CAA colleges, and a declining academic classification, all this with the size and support of a national school.

Football just reinforces the fact as FCS football is regional players with regional budgets, played primarily for student recreation.

It's all in the name. If UVA was called Thomas Jefferson University, it would be considered as small school as well. Think about it. There are few exceptions where schools don't have a state name ... Purdue, Stanford, Wake Forest, etc. But, there aren't very many.

That's not true. The largest public state schools (especially land-grant) have been traditionally named after the state but not all (Rutgers, Purdue) and some named after the state are private (U Penn). In some cases the school with the "state" label is larger than the one without (Ohio State vs Ohio) and in some states school with city names are larger than those with state names (Clemson vs SC State).

Whether it was called University of Virginia or University of Douches, if UVA was tapped to become the state's flagship public school, it was going to be the flagship.

Watching WNBA last night. It appears that Tamera Young is now with the LV Aces. They got whooped up on by the Lynx but are still a lot better than they were last year.

This is her second season with the Aces. They actually beat the Lynx yesterday 80-75. Tamera has been coming off the bench playing 15-20 minutes per game. Still making us JMU proud on the court!!

Stop whining. If JMU is that awful, go get a postgrad degree somewhere else, use that as your "distinction" and claim it as your alma mater. Meanwhile:

So there so now. I'd be proud to have my grandson play football at JMU *and* get a marketable degree.

Exactly, I wholeheartedly agree. If being in the FBS is so important to some of these people I don't understand why they came to JMU. They should have gone to Tech or some other FBS school.

Just one site's opinion of the Skins' DB depth chart... https://riggosrag.com/2019/07/01/redskin...hart-2019/

Just for reference, Daniel Jones, the 6th overall pick was given a 63 rating. Not sure if that's wildly disrespectful to the Giants and Jones or if people are starting to see the talent in Jimmy 05-stirthepot

Based on the other rookie ratings I'm seeing, it's a little of both. The highest rookies are mid-high 70s

I'll be interested to see how his rating changes after the first batch of roster updates closer to Week 1.

RE: Pro Dukes
Small note, NFL Network released its schedule of preseason games it will be carrying live earlier today. In Week 2 on August 17, Sat. 7:30pmET, they'll be televising live the Chiefs at Steelers.

Hoping to see some of Rashard Davis and Marcus Marshall with KC. NFL Network at minimum shows tape delay of all the preseason games. Will try to update TV schedules involving our Dukes once August gets here.

RE: Pro Dukes
Madden initial ratings released today... JMUers I could find are as follows:

Daniel Brown - 68
Dean Marlowe - 68
Josh Wells - 65
Jimmy Moreland - 64
Earl Watford - 64
Aaron Stinnie- 55
Raven Greene - 54

While it sucks guys like Hymen, Davis And Marcus Marshall aren't there, I'm pretty sure it's the most jmuers we've ever had in a madden game (7). Pretty sure Stinnie, Greene, and Moreland (obviously) are new to the game.

Mickey Mathews joining the XFL Dallas staff under head coach Bob Stoops. He will be coaching the outside linebackers.

Also keeping an eye on Vad, looks like there was another XFL DC showcase:
