There's not a whole lot of good that comes out of Portsmouth, but Arthur Moats certainly was a great Duke and is a great guy. Congratulations on a successful NFL career AM!!!!

Doing NHL on NBC?

Yea Patton Oswalt and Wanda Sykes we’re technically born there or lived there at some point, but they aren’t true Portsmouth.

If Portsmouth gave us Missy Elliot, it’s alright in my book.

RE: Pro Dukes
Listening to WTEM 980 AM this morning and host Al Galdi was talking up JFM big time. Former HCMH is going to be on the show at 9:30 to talk about JFM!!! Getting lots of love so far.
Just finished listening to former HCMH, much love for JFM. Was really talking up his abilities and talents.
If you go to the WTEM website the segment should be archived in the Al Galdi show audio vault later today if you want to listen to it.

The tired phrase “from a smaller school” is used while praising JFM. I know JMU fans on this board are as irritated as I am when we hear or read this slight. I rarely see this phrase used to describe players from other FCS programs. Why is this phrase continually in use when it comes to JMU? Are the writers/talking heads somehow off in their own lala land thinking a school named James Madison must be a tiny private school? Obviously, a university of 23k with a two-time D1 NC football program, that has hosted two recent ESPN Gamedays is only “smaller” if you’re comparing JMU’s FB program to P5 programs, but again the writers/talking heads don’t seem to use this tired phrase to describe other FCS/G5 schools.

I wouldn’t sweat the terminology, it’s like middle class and mid-major that gets used to seemingly describe any school not in a select group regardless of enrollment.

I understand where you are coming from, though I perhaps don't understand the part highlighted in bold. I think this phrase is used all the time about players from D1AA. For that matter, I've seen/read/heard the phrase used not only about a lot of the G5 but also P5 programs like Wake Forest or Vanderbilt.
I completely agree with Polish Hammer. Don't sweat it. The authors using these phrases aren't looking at student populations and never will. In fact, in the context of their analysis, student enrollment isn't even a consideration. They are just looking at the hierarchy of the college football food chain.
It starts with an elite subset of the P5 that runs everything. Then, the rest of the P5. Then, the upper echelon of the G5 (AAC for example). Then, the rest of the G5. Then, we get to D1AA. There are huge variations throughout that hierarchy regarding student populations and nobody writing cares (nor do most readers to be honest because they get the context...though, I do understand the frustration).
