This game has as much meaning as the MVSU game. The next two games will be more telling.

Exactly. We're playing with backups at several positions against an SEC team. I think the high from last week filled our heads with false expectations.

We aren't great yet. But is that surprising considering where we came from last year? Let's cross our fingers for a win next week at Charlotte.

I will say the offense has a chance to be explosive in MAC play.

One thing will be definite after our game next week...one of the teams will be 1-2 on the season.

You're right, this game has no real meaning except for the obvious penalties and blown plays. These have been a problem for a very long time. That, in and of itself, is an indication that this is a pretty undisciplined team. I can understand Missouri beating EMU if EMU played a penalty and mistake free game but EMU hasn't. Some of these penalties helped Missouri a great deal. That, for me, is the frustrating thing.

You don't need to nor should you have to cross your fingers against Charlotte, for god's sake. This team is plenty good enough to handle Charlotte no problem. That should be pretty obvious, even though the score kind of got away from us tonight.

I agree, Bob. Especially if we get Vann back.

Also the officiating has been horrendous this game. Should have reviewed Banham's catch, and should have thrown the flag for PI on that 4th down.

Vann-Ericksen is going to be a nice tandem. How did we get a guy like Kilby? That is a weapon that needs to be utilized.

BS targeting call. What's he supposed to do, stop his momentum? Nice hit.

I thought I saw a bad call earlier today. That's an awful targeting call. That was a perfectly legal football hit. Terrible.

Couldn't agree more. Reviewing for 12 men. No review for banham. Bad targeting call. No call for man down field on Mizzou swing pass. Just terrible. In no way why we lost this but the calls definitely haven't helped.

There is an old saying that goes, "Losers blame the officiating." You can't blame the officials for blown coverage or things like snapping the ball over the quarterback's head. Take away the "poor officiating", what would the score be? The officials had absolutely nothing to do with EMU not stopping Missouri...or failed offensive drives - one 15 yard penalty comes to mind. Run the ball and don't fumble. Go all out and catch the ball that is thrown to you. Don't run in the opposite direction of the receiver you are supposed to be covering. Stick to fundamentals on special teams. Those are the things that caused EMU to lose this game, not the officials.

And, like I have indicated more than once, it has a lot more to do with the undisciplined play of EMU than anything else. Good teams rise above the officiating. Poor teams use it as an excuse for the loss.

I don't think anyone is blaming the refs. Mizzou is clearly the better team. Just making observations.

Call on UCF at Michigan.

Agree. No one is even close to blaming the poor officiating for the loss. However, bad calls against a multiple score underdog makes it almost impossible to keep the score respectable.

Dear Friends,
If we weren't getting to their quarterback with the four man rush, why weren't we blitzing? Most of us went into the season expecting the front four to put some pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In this game it wasn't happening. Sooooo....do something different.
Same thing when Eastern fell behind by twenty-five points. Why keep running off tackle? How about a reverse, power sweep, screen pass? I did not like the play calling both offensively and defensively.
These were the worst homer referees in a long time. What a farce.

I noticed that really tonight.

This is not a team with top end speed anywhere.

Agreed. Definitely not blaming refs (as I said in my post), we got killed.

We made mistakes. I agree with your critique of play calling. I felt that when the going got rough in re first half, Coach C put his tail between his legs and stops being aggressive in anyway.

I also think some coverage issues could have been fixed with adjustments and nothing was done.

We got beat by a good football team. We made mistakes. Turnovers. Wasted plays. Bad penalties. Not a good look.
