Game week: NC State
Summer is over. Tribe football is here.
Looking for the Tribe to have zero field goals, 100% red zone efficiency, and six offensive TD's, and one special teams / defensive TD.
Yep. Tribe is going to hang 49 on NC State! The Kool Aid is wonderful at this time of year.
Here's hoping NC State doesn't do the same to the good guys.
High scoring affair!
I predict a 49-48 Tribe victory in a shoot-out as JL opens the entire playbook on opening night!
Roll, Tribe, roll!
PS Five NC State turnovers and no Tribe offensive stalls inside the red zone will also be helpful.

Young on defense. Barta out for a while. 8 freshmen and redshirt freshmen on two-deep.

Yeah on second look we seem a little banged up. There are some names missing that I was expecting to see on the defensive side of the ball.

Excited to see what Funderbrooke can do at HB. He had several P5 offers, and chose us over schools like Duke, Wake, and Northwestern.

Game week: NC State
Article just released by RTD quotes Laycock as saying Kendell may not be available on Thursday night due to a shoulder injury...ugh...says Funderburke will get the nod, if Kendell unable to go..
Also, shares light on Cluley playing with a sports hernia at end of last season, but moving much better now after off season surgery. Laycock says he's farther along than last year.
Sorry I can't post the link to the article from my phone...maybe someone else can.

Really hope Kendall isn't anything too serious. Would be great to have our top RB to help take some pressure of WRs all night.

RE: Game week: NC State
Quote:“He (Cluley) works at it so hard that sometimes he overthinks things,” said Laycock. “You’ve just got to play. Go with what you see. … Don’t get too analytical.”
Cluley agrees. There have been times, he acknowledged, when he complicated a basic read with unnecessary considerations.
I'm so happy to see this quote. This is my only real criticism of Cluley last year. While I appreciate taking care of the ball, there were times when he stared down a wide open receiver for what seemed like an eternity (probably half second) before pulling the trigger. He usually completed the pass anyway, but negated what could have been a big RAC because the reception was made right at the boundary or the defender recovered. Caution is great when you're learning the offense and how to read the defense. As a third year starter Cluley needs to trust his eyes and his pre-snap reads and play loose. To quote JL, "don't get too analytical".
I think Cluley takes this next step in his progression and has a great senior year!
PS - Against a great NCST DL, I think you may see us throw first (short and mid range) to set-up the run.

Would love to see the senior get his final crack at an FBS scalp, but not if there is any risk of worsening his injury.
If we're going to have any chance on Thurs a number of under classmen are going to have to have big days on defense.

Cluley took a nasty hit early against Richmond. I wonder if that was the cause. He definitely didn't look hurt setting fire to Towson the week before.

Kendall even if he is cleared will be limited. I dont remember seeing him compete in either of the scrimmages. A lot of good things have been said regarding Funderburke. If Kendall can't go, it's next man up. Our success last year was because we had guys step in and hold there own.
We have a number of weapons; Caskins, Dedmon, Armstrong, Kuzjak, Christian. Another weapon is Coach Rogers. His game plan could be the answer.

Does anybody have parking plans figured out for the game? I know that there is some talk about being able to park at Cardinal Gibbons High School or a parking deck, but I don't think tailgating would be particularly stellar at either of those :/

We need guys to be healthy for FCS ball. I'm not interested in seeing our top guys, at 65%, go out there and end up missing 6 weeks.
Let the young bucks go out there and make a name for themselves.

Maybe we will have lightning and Funderburke. You never know, it could be a coming out party for Christian, Funderburke and some young defenders.
Our guys will play hard, fast and loose. A fast start is crucial. The main goal is for guys to stay healthy.

I don't want to burn redshirts either though. I'm hoping we can find a way to avoid playing both our banged up guys and the true freshmen. But if I have to choose one of the groups I think we should definitely roll with untested guys rather than trot out some players with injuries
