You don't have to take my word for it. You'll come to find out pretty quick that Coastal's administration delivers. I doubt many things. I'm an eternal pessimist. But if there is one thing I have trust in at Coastal it is the administration. This will get done.
Can we borrow some of this administration? Our administration is the polar opposite of what you describe.

Coastal is no different from any other school in that state revenue/spending on secondary education is becoming less and less. Schools across the country are being funded less by tax dollars and more by tuition increases. If you want more athletically, student fees are increased or donors are asked to give more. Coastal, at this time, does not have a good donor base (athletic wise) and lack of private money is one of the objections from the CHE group. They want to see more private money raised but neither have they said how much is needed. A good rule of thumb is 20-30%. Coastal wants to use some funds reserved for capital improvements but the CHE will not approve. South Carolina is not a wealthy state but Clemson and USC are two of the best nationally in raising private money. So expect Coastal to reduce its expansion plans to a level that the CHE will approve and as stated before, I look for a stadium in the 15-18K size when the dust settles.
You constantly show your ignorance on this subject. Wow. Literally every sentence you posted had something wrong in it.

Coastal is not like any other school in the state. Do your research before you talk out the side of your neck.

Coastal is BY FAR the lowest funded public school in the state. We get less than 10% of our budget from the state as a school. Most public schools in our state get more than double what we get from a percentage of budget perspective. So no...we aren't "just like every other school in the state." Do your research somewhere outside of your own mind.

Also, no, SCar and Clemson are not just "masters at fundraising." In fact, U of SC just got approval from the exact same CHE board with MUCH less private funds pledged than we have, and it was for a similar athletic project. The bias is obvious with them and so is yours.

Again, stop pulling numbers out of your arse based in nothing but your misguided, uninformed opinions. Thanks.

The onus for proof sits on the guy that's on here spouting off complete nonsense. But since you asked, here you go! Looks like it's worse than I originally stated!

We are the WORST funded public school in the state of SC. Less than 5% of our budget comes from the state. No other public school in the state comes close to that.

http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/lo...94129.html

"Decades ago, state funding accounted for about two-thirds of the university’s budget, Dyer said. Now that allocation falls below 5 percent, the lowest of South Carolina’s public institutions." - from the article

So there you have it. Facts are stubborn things. Kind of flies in the face of the suggestion that Coastal is "just like every other school in the state." That is BS.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the committee on this to a certain extent. I wouldn't have gone in front of them without at least 20% of the funds in hand. The reality is that $6MM is nothing in FBS football, if I couldn't get that I would have to question if my school was ready for the move.

Marshall just spent $30MM on a new indoor facility and soccer stadium and the school required that they had at least $20MM in private donations in place before they broke ground. We got it done and we're a small school in a poor state. Your boosters need to step up.

If you are representative of the Coastal thinking, no wonder the CHE has turned you down four times. With you it's always bias and poor us rather than understanding the situation and acting accordingly. State funding is down, one reason why the CHE wants private money invested along with being a gauge as to how well the fan base will support a movement to FBS. As you should know, the CHE chairman questions the budget presented to them regarding the move up cost and believes the school has understated the cost of doing so by a considerable amount. You have few donors and little capital raised. If this wasn't so, we would know the amount pledged or donated and it would be presented to the CHE. Coastal has not made one pledge of real life private money, only reserved state money that's budgeted to maintain existing buildings. Now I hope the school receives the funding for the expansion but I also hope the CHE holds Coastal's feet to the fire to raise its share of the required private funds, whatever that amount may be.

That's the main problem, the CHE won't tell them what that goal/amount is. This is 4 times they have turned them down but won't say what they need to satisfy their itch.

Coastal actually committed $14.5 million of private money to the project.

That's just a semantics answer. They want donations that were specifically made to fund the construction of the stadium in support of your move to fbs. How much have you raised through donations for this purpose? How many members do you have in what ever you call your athletic booster club and how much does this club raise annually? What has been the level of success you have had in past capital campaigns for specific athletic department construction projects?

Just to be clear, I am pulling for you guys. It would be great to come down for an ooc game and I would love it if someday you got a bowl game there. We need another mid-Atlantic bowl destination. However, I get the point that you need to demonstrate that the fans, alumni and other stakeholders are going to be willing to step up financially. Charlotte had to do it, ODU just committed $55MM for a new stadium. Just go raise $10MM in private donations and I bet they'll approve the other $20MM in bonding.

No, Coastal has not pledged any donor/private funds of any significance to the project. And that is holding the request up. In their four requests several proposals have been made. The original amount has been reduced from $39 million to $28. Once the CHE approves any money, bonds will be sold to pay for the construction. The only money Coastal has offered are reserve funds for renovation but the board said no. Coastal now has pledged $500k a year from the Coastal Athletic Foundation and $200k a year from it's operating athletic revenue to pay off the bonds with all of this money coming AFTER the project is completed. The problem, in part, with this is the chairman of the CHE believes Coastal has under budgeted it's move up cost to FBS by some serious amount (the chairman does have experience in this type matter) and is concerned any short fall in their budget will minimize the dollars available from Coastal to pay the $500k and $200k from the CAF or it's athletic revenue. If this should occur, the state would have the responsibility to pay off the bond deficit which takes us back to the CHE request for donor money to provide a financial cushion and prove fan support for the plan. The CHE position is very simple. They do not want any state money in the project which means Coastal has to pay the bonds off itself. For the CHE to approve the plan, Coastal has to come up with some down payment so to speak (like you buying a house) to make the lender (state) feed the proposal is safe for the taxpayers.

Exactly. This FloridaRedWolf guy lives in his own alternate reality where facts don't matter as much as his own fantastical mental concoctions.

Ooooook. I've figured it out. I suspected it all along, but now I'm pretty confident that The new Florida RedWolf guy is one of those closet Liberty fans that comes on to troll Coastal, but is too ashamed to admit they are a Liberty fan.

Check the other thread in the general discussion forum. Now he's talking about how people shouldn't be trashing Liberty, and wants to know what makes them inadequate in others eyes, while singing praises about their facilities.

So this is becoming obvious. Seen this old song and dance before. 07-coffee3

I don't know if Florida Red Wolf is a Liberty fan or not. But I do know that the AState fans that I talk to were divided on the addition of Coastal. Those who are basketball and baseball fans were for it. Those who were primarily football fans were skeptical. I hope you guys get the stadium issues worked out.

Check the other thread in the general discussion forum. Now he's talking about how people shouldn't be trashing Liberty, and wants to know what makes them inadequate in others eyes, while singing praises about their facilities.

So this is becoming obvious. Seen this old song and dance before. 07-coffee3

I'm not worried at all about you guys. There is money to get it done, however, CCU needs to increase alumni giving, which I'm sure you know. Worst case you add a $2-4 million dollar metal expansion that gets you about 19-20k. This isn't a big deal.

It's only a big deal to people who have an intense jealousy complex and desperately do anything they can to try and concoct reasons to say Coastal shouldn't have been added to the sun belt.

Meanwhile, Coastal is one win away from going to the College World Series and playing for a national championship.

We were added due to our full portfolio as an athletic program. We earned it. To those of you who have a problem with it, get over it.

One thing I'll add is that this is very political. I'm not going into details yet but there are some things happening politically that we are basically caught in the middle. The sound bites you see / read sound nice but aren't exactly the truth.

So there are reasons why we aren't running back there with a new number. It will be more now but we did say publicly a couple of months ago that we had over $4 million raised for the project. Fundraising wasn't a priority as we weren't expecting to be required to pay for it with fundraising.

As was mentioned previously, SC was just approved for a project of $50 million with $2 million of private support committed and bonded the rest.

Count me as one fan that loves to see CCU in the SBC. You are right it's about your schools complete package we all knew football was going to take some time. Not a big deal. Great school, great area, and a great program. If you didn't know, AppState played a very large role in getting CCU to the SBC. You guys do deserve it and will be a great addition to the family.

Red Wolf fans are typically skeptical of any FCS addition at any time. It's usually pretty shallow and doesn't last long.

The truth here is that all of our schools face in-state interference and subterfuge. It gets more intense when you join the FBS level. Most of us have learned how to dodge and weave and sometimes sneak in our own punch.

What Coastal is seeing is nothing new for any of us. That's why I'm not that worried about it.

Hopefully the school isn't forced into wasting money.
The plans should allow for an easy future expansion for a future bowl game.
Hard to come up with a better location for a lower tier bowl. The board should be taking that into consideration.
