RE: Warren, Kaine, Castro on Clinton running-mate short list
Kane is boring, nice and won't steal the spotlight. Terry McAuliffe has Virginia locked up anyway. Please don't let it be him.
Castro isn't ready yet. I wish he was, but he isn't. The San Antonio mayorship is a weak mayorship and he doesn't have much to point to in terms of accomplishment.
Warren would be a home run. There's no better attack dog, in fact she's so good at getting under Trump's skin the concern might be she'd overshadow Hillary. As I mentioned in another thread, her seat would only be lost a couple months. The question is, will Hillary buck her Wall Street benefactors?

Warren, Kaine, Castro on Clinton running-mate short list
She doesn't need a progressive like Warren in the VP spot. She needs Warren attacking from outside the inter circle. She needs the VP to be a centrist that doesn't scare independents and the few GOPs that are anti-Trump and might either vote Clinton, Johnson or not at all.

No one really votes for the VP anyway.

Warren is a racial minority candidate. So there's that.

Maybe this should be it's own thread, I haven't seen one, but is there any update to Trump's VP shortlist?

Palin was the last straw for many people back in 08.

It's really just an exercise to test your competence in making decisions. It's nice if the VP can attack but that often destroys their brand and ability to run for office in the future when that becomes people's first impression of you.

If I'm HRC, I go with Castro to corner the gay and Hispanic vote with one stone

I have noticed that you have a tendency to try and out everyone you think seems gay. Not very liberal of you.

I still say it was the opposite, dawg... if Palin hadn't been on the ticket, McCain would have been trounced even worse than he was.
Don't forget, McCain was getting props from the media for being the "anti-Republican Republican maverick", and he was saying things that were ANGERING the conservative base of the Republican party voters.
Nobody on the conservative voting spectrum wanted McCain, it was a plug your nose and bear it situation... And if the Libertarians had been smart and gone with almost anyone but Barr, they'd probably be 4 years further ahead than where they are now that they've got a stronger Libertarian candidate. (of course, if the Constitution Party would ever get off their asses)
At the time, Palin was the start of the Populist-voter uprising in the Republican party, whether or not you liked what she said or how she said it.

Julian Castro? Gay? Didn't know that one. Possible. But dunno.

That being said, Castro is the smart pick unless something comes up in the vetting process.

Maybe so. I'm basing it on people I know that had voted Republican in presidential elections for years ( many were Reagan Democrats) and were having a hard time wrapping their head around voting for a black guy with a weird name and little experience. The VP selection and the difference in the way the two candidates responded to the stock market crisis seemed to be the tipping point. I was honestly shocked.

I hate thinking in voter blocs. Most people make up their own minds.
