But seriously guy/gal, show us on the doll where that big bad UL fan touched you all those years ago. You seem to harbor an abnormally large amount of butthurt.

The UTA poster might take an issue with how his school called us over the weekend.

Yes, they used our proper nickname throughout: it was on the live stats and video as well.

No issue, just like poking the bear. I've been chastised by various members of the chip-on-the-shoulder, name-complex contingent for using ULL, Louisiana-Lafayette and even Cajuns (I clearly am disrespecting the school if I use the mascot name instead of saying Louisiana).

I also thought it was obvious I was having a little fun with the post, by referring to a baseball team as a sporting nine, but whatevs. Ultimately, I do it to have fun, seeing as how three of yall took offense to it, it seems to work every time.

The irony is that while at the rubber match, I refereed to the opposition as Louisiana to my son and nearby fans. At the softball game, I refereed to the Cajuns team as Louisiana when they came up in conversation. But, if I'd have made a wacky reference to the Cajuns in those circles, no one would have noticed or cared.

BTW, in all sports, UTA is 13-8 vs. (insert name of your choice). UTA picked up victories versus the Ragin' Cajuns in all sports minus women's basketball where they were 0-3. Baring any conference tournament meetings, I expect that number to rise to 15-8 by the end of the year, despite the larger budget by yall. You'll likely respond with something about us not having football or the major sports, but cool. Can only control what we have and so far that is superior to you guys by almost 2-1.

Can't speak for the other UL fans but you most definetly did not offend me in your post. Conference mates will poke each other from time to time and there is nothing wrong with that. I was just truly pleased to see our correct nickname being used....it's not happening as much or as fast as we would like it to, but it is gaining traction. Thanks to you and your school for being a part of that!

This is also related to the issues that the consultant we recently hired found (and that I recently posted part of in another thread) about some of our weaknesses: while 'Ragin Cajuns' is unique and pretty well known, it is not tied to us specifically, which is very frustrating. Heck....most everyone outside of Louisiana think the only town that exists here is nola....and that lsu is located there, lol.

Hopefully our admin will start working on getting our brand out more effectively; we have done an horrific job of doing this in the past so we have a lot of work to do in that regard.

Que the LA tech fans to say you can't use that name not now not ever. Sorry I could resist. Kinda dull around these parts.

The good news for us is that there aren't any mid-week games this week.

The bad news is that even if we sweep App, we will still see a drop in our rpi.

Yes you will. USA has slipped in the RPI, thanks to schedule and performance. But thankfully we have two good midweek games this week, and still have the series with the Cajuns and Troy remaining.

Yep. I think you guys are at 36? I might be wrong in this, but with app @250, ULM @160, that only leaves uno with a so-so 66, and you guys who won't hurt our rpi. All we can do is win as many as we can and hope for a good showing in the tourney.

And if nothing else, at the end of this season we can start work on the new Tigue, ;-)

So you guys handled JSU in G1, and you dropped 1 RPI pt. I'm anxious to see what the outcome will be with G2. Hope you get that RPI as high as possible.

And ULM got a W in the Nichols game last night.....wishing you continued good luck for tonight's game!

We didn't drop. We were #36 before the game. With a lot of former opponents winning last night, combined with a Jag win, we moved up to #30. The best thing for USA is every game we have left is against a team with a winning record (another game against JSU, and 3 each against GS, ULL, and Troy). We should be good here on out from an RPI perspective.

Lol.......I meant dropped in a good, positive sense.....i.e., dropping from 36-30.

ETA: we didn't even play last night and dropped to 19.

And got a whopping 10 pts for it.....USA now at 27.

We also got 4, and are now at 16.

Given the top 12 are usually hosts, we still have shot. But you know we gotta win first, lol.

Should be an interesting end to the season and tourney.

Assuming you guys don't screw around with App or ULM, the winner of the series between you two probably hosts.

USA has far better teams left on the schedule RPI wise, so they don't risk dropping as far.

Exactly. We still have a shot. We have 3 games against GS, 3 games against the Cajuns, and 3 games @ Troy. All have winning records so that bodes well for us. We still have lost games that we shouldn't have, and that might keep us just outside hosting range. Hopefully we fare well down the stretch and face good teams in the SBC Tourney. We still have a shot. We only need to move up 11 spots.

someone on RP (who is much smarter than me) has calculated that if we sweep app this weekend, we will move from our current 16 to 22. However, we have UH, USA and UNO all,on the road, so those will be huge for us.

Here is also a nice summary about our rpi from RP that I thought I'd share:

"Looking at teams around us, Georgia Tech and LSU have basically nothing but good RPI games left.

Coastal is closer to us as they have a bad weekend series but it's on the road so they can neutralize it some. Virginia has a weaker series against VT last weekend.

Our remaining schedule is interesting. Our last 6 home games are against easily the lowest RPI teams left (App and ULM). Our last 5 road games are against our highest RPI teams left where all are top 100 RPI (UH, USA, UNO).

Gives us a chance to protect our home field and avoid losses, but winning on the road will be tougher."

He didn't calculate anything. And you can't just assume that all else will be the same for everyone else if we sweep App State. Our OOC opponents can lose every game over the weekend and that would hurt us more than just playing App. He used a drop to #22 because the current #23 team's RPI is .5785 (TCU), which is .0101 lower than our current RPI. That is a pretty big difference in the RPI at this stage in the season. Now, lose one game to App and you could drop lower than 22.

The RPI is a tool, but not the end all in determining anything. Normally, the top 12 in the RPI end up hosting. It gets tricky with the final 4 hosts. For instance, LSU is #18 right now and will likely only go up from there thanks to their remaining opponents all having records better than .500. But they are 7th in RPI in the SEC and tied for 7th overall in the SEC. They are also 6-7 against the RPI top 25, which the committee uses to see how potential hosts stack up against their competition. Should LSU end up in the top 16 in the RPI but still have a sub .500 record against the Top 25 and remain at 7th in the SEC, they would not get a host site.

The one factor keeping us from hosting is being 4 games back of USA in the Sun Belt. If we do not win the Sun Belt regular season, we can be in the top 16 and won't host.

I think another thing in our favor is the number of SEC and ACC teams in the top 12. I don't think the committee will give that many host spots to two conferences.
