I was not that impressed with his arm. He is big and mobile but I think Hansen will beat him out. I can't imagine him forgoing being a starter at EKU in his last season to be a backup here.

Neither can he or your coaches. They did not bring him in to be a backup.

Of course Hansen, and D.J. Pearson have every intention on being the starter but the cards are stacked against them because Voytik has been there and done that at the FBS level.

A-State has the most talented roster of players in the SBC, and these newbies know that, and know the expectations for 2016 are a lot higher than they have been.

About his decision Voytik said:".........They just had some quarterbacks leave recently and are surrounded by some athletes that are the top in the nation as far as their abilities. I’m being surrounded by a great defense, great supporting cast, great coaches and a great town, so I’m happy about all the pieces. They’re a no-huddle, spread offense that utilizes the quarterback’s legs and arm. I’m excited about how dynamic the offense is.”

He won't be, and make that 20K+, everything is bigger and better this year in Jonesboro.

Look I realize you guys have to be politically correct here but I don't.

A-State would be the best team in the SBC without these transfers, who are game changers. You return almost everyone on defense and most of your 2-deep on offense, and your red-shirt freshmen are top shelf SBC talent.

James Tabary and Cam Brise would have been very good QB's, with more than enough talent to beat SBC competition, but Hansen and Hoytik are just heads and shoulders more talented, and that is a fact.

Warren Wand, Johnston White, Daryl Rollins‐Davis,DeKeathan William, and Jamal Jones are the best group of RB's in the SBC, but none are as talented as Armond Weh Weh.

No SBC team would have had a better group of returning receivers than Dijon Paschal, Chris Murray, Omar Bayless, Warren Leapheart,Chauncey Mason, Darveon Brown, and Blake Mack, but Justin McInnis, Cameron Echols-Luper, Christian Booker, and Kendall Sanders are an even better talents.

Blocking for them will be the best OL in the SBC that returns everyone, including two 1st team all- conference players and has seriously upgraded their depth.

No reason to discuss the defense, they were the best in the SBC in 2015, and are a lot better in 2016, and I mean a LOT better. They will dominate.

And Nick Saban's most talented team was the 2010 team that lost three games in the regular season and finished 4th in the SEC West. Having a talented team doesn't guarantee a conference championship. Ask Saban.

His spreadsheet breaking down the number of 247 3-star players on each defense.

But seriously, we had a lower scoring defense with an arguably tougher offenses across the board on our schedule.

Not sure where they ranked last year on numbers, but they were good.
And he's right, we will be the top defense this year by far.

Tell that to the 9 returning starters that App has coming back.

Georgia Southern and App State were better in scoring defense, total defense, and yards per play - IMO the only overall defensive stats that really matter. I would say StAte is the favorite but you can't really count GS or App out.

Our 4-star transfer linebacker from Florida State will be eligible, and from watching him in practice and the spring game he looks very much like a 4-star. The line and linebackers should be good. Our DBs will be more athletic this year albeit much less experienced.

The two question marks are the new defensive coaches and the experience of the secondary.

By far??? Big talk for a team that had a mid-pack defense in 2015.

App has 9 of 11 starters back and 18 of 22 on the two deep back from the top defense in 2015. The App defense was #1 in Scoring D, Total D, Pass D, and #2 in Rush D and even that was only .6 ypg behind GS for 1st.

Nationally we were #11 in Total D, #13 in Scoring D, #15 in Pass D, #26 in Rush D, #20 in Sacks, and #12 in INT's.

Obviously things change with each year, but to make it sound like stAte will be on a different level defensively than everyone is a stretch. GS was also very good last year all though they lost a more players than we did.

A-State's defense led the nation, or was top 5, in takeaways and defensive points scored. That made a decent defense very effective. Didn't have enough depth again in the end, but depth should be there in 2016 everywhere except maybe cornerback. Also stAte's offense typically goes faster than most and scores faster than most, so traditional yards per game allowed metrics don't really tell the whole story.

RE: Ranking the QB Position in the Sun Belt
Arkansas State's defense was not a Top 4 defense. App State, Georgia Southern, Troy, and possibly Georgia State were the best defenses in the belt last year. Arkansas State's defense will likely be very good this year, but they'll have to content with Vic Koenning (Troy DC) in his second year, a fully stocked APP, and a GS defense that looks again to be strong.

"we will be the top defense this year by far" sounds an awful lot like "Brooks Haack will be 1st Team All-SBC QB." We all know how that ended up...

Hey, I hope the guy's right. We need a "Boise State" in this conference badly.

I mostly ignore Seminole, but I take the bait from the other A-State posters every time.
