Person has a great NBA resume but has been in college coaching for 2 years. He's 52 and being a head coach especially your first time around is a tough gig. The question in my mind is how much does he have left in the tank?

Eshan has been in this business for years but is still relatively young. He has a proven track record as an assistant and a recruiter. He's someone that could take us out of this conference just from sheer hustle. Hiring him would also send a signal to current players that they aren't a rebuilding project, the current trajectory is working.

Esahn isn't going to have to learn our personnel or reinvent our offense.

I can see Chuck Person helping us in some ways, and I always liked watching him play.

Both of these guys would be their first head coaching job. Person will have played and watched under some of the best.

Is the motivation of players a whole lot different between college and pro hoops ?

We need a coach for the next 2 years that isn't going to screw up a good thing.

I'm not too worried. Person is only the first name leaked, probably by Chuck or his people. There will be others interviewed.

Again, blindly disregarding an SEC candidate is dumb and close minded. We may not have a great track record with SEC hires, but I'd say the only ones we really had our own hand in hiring were McGee, Davis, and Anderson. Anderson was a home run. Davis was mediocre. Mcgee was an abject failure. The other two were pretty much forced on us.

I will say though, compared to Pettway & Pearson I would rather have Person.

Probably been said here already, but one of my issues with Chuck is that if he has success at UAB, he would be a top candidate to replace Pearl when he gets bored at Auburn. I know we will likely have that problem with anyone that has success here (outside a UAB guy), but to me its a little different when you know it before you even hire him.

Sure, if Haase would have taken UAB to 3 Final Four appearances, he would have been considered to replace Roy at UNC when that time comes, but that would have been easier to swallow.

& Pearl could be gone in a year or two for various reasons.

as far as basketball goes its .500

Forget the actual disdain for the SEC in general...why would you want an SEC guy. They aren't exactly a basketball rich conference.

There are some SEC guys I like. That said it seems the media floats just any person out there because they were in the SEC thinking well since they were in the SEC they should be good enough for little ole UAB. Sacrbo has ben very good to us but he falls into that trap as well. This thinking must have been surgically implanted in their heads.

& news outlets have picked up on his article on Stansbury & treat it like all UAB fans are missing out because WKU got him instead.

It's not just sports: look at all the candidates with those useless Higher Education Leadership doctorates from the Tuscaloosa Diploma Mill who pop up at the top of every search for higher admin staff spots.

Hell, even when the Trustees get daring enough to look past their own campus of inbred goat ******* their "outsider" pick comes from LSU.
