CCU's Uniforms
Costal fans, I have noticed that you guys have Russell uniforms. Do any of y'all know when the Russell contract expires/if y'all will be trying to move to Adidas/Nike/UnderArmour when y'all make the move to the FBS?

I just know not many teams in FBS rock Russell unis anymore. (Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, and Ohio are the only ones)

you would think being an ACC school that Georgia Tech could do better than Russell

...this is a touchy subject within our fanbase.

We are all hoping for something better. Contract is up this year I believe.

I have heard that there is someone that works in GT's athletic department that is close to an executive at Russell (I think they may be married) and that is why they have stuck around with Russell. I don't know if that is true however that would explain it.

Well hopefully something will come along! As a Southern fan I am hoping for UnderArmour the next time we have a chance to change. Would be nice to be the only UA team in the conference!

As a Southern fan, I'm not sure why it matters all that much for us. I like the old-school traditional look, and I don't see that it matters who makes the uniform if we stay with that look. I guess whoever offers us the best deal would be my pick. If, on the other hand, they tried to out-Oregon Oregon with bizarre uniform combinations, it wouldn't make me happy no matter who made them or how much they paid us to wear them!

Yes, it expires August of this year but one of our posters has said that they may not be in a rush to get a new supplier. Not sure why not.

Russell was probably a decent deal for us when we signed it 5 years ago. We had piecemeal contracts and our colors were all over the place.

It would be nice to go with Nike or UA. I think I'd prefer Nike but UA would be nice. I'm not sure how much the vendors would offer us though, we have decent sports but not the tradition of other programs and are in the middle of transitioning to FBS.

What's wrong with Russell, other than it's not some 'name?'

I've had Russell stuff, wears as good as Nike, UnderArmour or Adidas far as I can tell.

There is the perception. But I also think they lag behind in styling. Not that everyone needs to be Oregon or Maryland, but Nike and UA tend to have more modern looking designs.

I think Russell is trying to make a bigger push but overcoming perception is going to be tough.

Our AP also had a commercial with Russell, so I've got no problems with them.

RE: CCU's Uniforms
Brands matter. No college kid wants to wear Russel while his peers are wearing Nike/UnderArmour/Adidas. It doesn't matter how quality the gear is. Reebok makes great stuff but the NFL dropped them like they were hott because Nike is way cooler. Uniforms are by no means the biggest factor in recruiting, or level of play but they definitely play a part in both in this era of football.

Russell actually has a quality product, just isn't a "cool b and" and they don't have shoes worth mentioning. The biggest thing holding under armor back is the quality of their athletic shoes, particularly basketball.

There used to be a crap-ton of GT grads working as engineers down in Alexander City, although I doubt that fact alone has any real consequence on the relationship. Never know, though...

I have never had a problem with Russell. I feel like that Russell biggest problems was that they were not able to keep up with the Jones several years back in the dollars paid to teams to keep wearing there uniforms due to so much of there manufacturing being inside the USA while the other manufactures being more based overseas. Just my option but I feel like many schools that used to wear Russell equipment in the past changed to other brands because Russell was not able to match the deals offered by the new suppliers.

Just my two cents.

Russell is headquartered in Atlanta and they have a ton of GT employees.

IMO, they have the worst uniforms in college athletics. The baseball uniforms, particularly GT's, have been awful the past decade. I was happy to see that the ones the Jackets wore last night were at least cut right.

RE: CCU's Uniforms
I want GS to go to Nike for selfish reasons. I like Nike's fan gear best and that's what I wear. With an adidas contract, the only way to get Nike gear is in our bookstore, and that is very limited. On gamedays I still wear my Nike coaches polo from 2011. It has held up well and I haven't found one to replace it yet. It's so hot in Statesboro on gamedays that dri-fit is a must, and the Adidas polos have a heavier feel to me.

I'm hoping for UA. Maybe they are wanting to wait until we fully transition in order to get a bigger deal? No idea just speculating, probably worth nothing lol.

Almost none of my Coastal attire is Russell.
