Illinois soph. WR, Marchie Murdock, appears to be transferring to #TXST.

Keff Ciardello ‏@Keff_C 4m4 minutes ago

Murdock was a 3-star recruit out of Legacy high school in Mansfield, TX. Appeared in six games for #Illinois. 21 career catches w/ 3 TD's.

Sounds eerily like what he did here at JMU, brought in a ACC QB transfer to put up lots of points to hide his defective defensive stratagies. Yes we averaged 43 points a game but we had them put on us on the other side, Be afraid be very afraid. You guys got our coaches and now looks like our past strategies.

Now if only we could get you to stop pestering us with how bad of a coach he was and how we should be afraid of how bad our defense is gonna be we would be set. 07-coffee3

The offense was great at JMU last season. You guys were #2 in FCS football in scoring and #2 in total offense. The problem was Brett Elliott's fast paced offense scored too quickly. JMU was ranked #116 out of 123 FCS schools in time of possession. The defense was on the field a lot. This could become a problem for Texas State as well. But it should bring more wins and it will be a lot more entertaining for Bobcat fans.

Everything I've been reading about EW at TXST sounds so familiar. If you could read and hear what went on here 2 years ago it's identical. I hope EW produces a winning team there. While we will miss his antics with the press, there seems to be no love loss from donors, players, or remaining staff.

Well a decent offense + bad defense is better than what we had last year.

No whine or sour grapes here! His departure was out of the blue, no warning other than the his ego indicated to a lot of us he would leave at the drop of a hat to further his coaching career, not to further JMU's status. Just stating a fact is all. While EW did win 18 games at JMU he did lose 2 playoff games to teams we should have beaten. Solely on a terrible defense, a nothing more. Our Offense was stellar both of his seasons, but the defense had flaws and good coaches exploited those flaws as the seasons progressed. A tribute to good coaching on thier part, and poor adjustment on ours. Look at the defense on every team he has coached. Just saying TXST has those coaches now good luck.

Did he win? That is the bottom line. He had a 14 game regular season winning streak at JMU. At Ohio State where he was the DC, he had a 24 game winning streak. In one season as as the interim head coach at North Carolina, he had a winning record and took his team to a bowl game. He was the DB coach on a Tennessee Titan them that went to the AFC championship game in 2002. He just seems to be coaching on teams that win.

You know, you guys might have kept him at JMU had you decided to go FBS. You had to see this coming. It is rare when you see an FCS head coach turn down an opportunity to be a head coach at the FBS level. I am going to trust that a guy that coached successfully under Mack Brown, Butch Davis, Jeff Fisher and Urban Meyer is going to help turn Texas State into a good football program.

Just want to add that if our D improves 20 places, that will make us happy. 123 out of 127 is just unacceptable.

I don't care if what JMU fans see is the same that they saw out of Withers on their social media, etc. That's to be expected but it has excited the fan base and the team is buying in. It's such a 180, and invigorating, from what we got from Fran and his staff.

Fran got us through the transition but we needed the injection and enthusiasm a new, younger coach is bringing.

Look take a good at the defense rankings for those teams you listed. Look carefully at stats before him, while he was there, and after he left. They had great offense that "he" was not responsible for, that won games . Not saying he wasnt on winning teams just that he and his coaches under him had difficulty adjusting to offenses that figured his defense schemes out. I hope the best for TXST maybe he will stay put for a while, but let the grass look a little greener on the other side and, he'll bolt there too. Ya can blame a man for bettering himself.

If it wasn't sour grapes y'all wouldn't constantly bring up the fact that he left yall at the drop of a hat. That's pretty normal if yall haven't noticed.... We hope he does good enough to be stolen from a better program, that means we were winning. If he stays when they come calling, great. If he leaves, then we wish him well and move on.

I wonder how many Jmu fans will probably be tuning in to TXST games with the hopes of watching us fail?

JMU fans can say they aren't bitter, but a lot of those posts sound very similar to the way GS fans reacted after CWF left us, and *Breaking News*

I can now confirm, we did indeed have sour grapes.

I get it... He left JMU at a really crappy time (like 2 weeks before NSD). That is enough to irritate any fan base.

Hell, 98% of the Texas State fan base wanted Fran gone, and they were all pissed at the timing of him retiring.

At the end of the day, JMU fans are saying they are happy he's gone, and we are happy with EW thus far.

EW is a good program manager. He brings "juice" and social media...and is a tireless recruiter.

Whether the JMU O transfers to FBS, where he no longer has the "A list" recruit for that level, is unknown. We were vastly more talented than most FCS/CAA teams.

The D will be bad to horrible....though I do wonder if Withers will give McCray the freedom to run his system. We were excited about him.

Our O was amazing from about the 5th game last year, until Vad got hurt this year. Ya'll can scoff, but Vad was the main driver of those crazy O numbers. He was a man among boys in FCS. Withers gets the credit for bring Vad to town.

Yes y'all have reminded us about your bad defense every week since we hired him. We get it.

Y'all realize that if our defense next year is bad it's not because of Withers, its because it was already amongst the worest in the country.... luckily for you JMU fans I don't think even the most optimistic Bobcat fans think our defense will improve drastically this year so you'll probably be able to say you told us so, even though we already know our defense sucks.

Good thing we have a different DC then JMU had. Also good that this DC turned Gardner-Webb from a bottom 20 defense to a top 20 defense in a year. I am not worried. The only worry I have right now is the lack of depth on both lines.
