I agree, at first glance it would appear as if W&M fans actually care [a lot] about what happens to a JMU football coach...............

To get back on track then, here are 6 names that were floated as potential candidates for the JMU job by the DNR reporter:

Bobby Hauck: San Diego State special teams coordinator (former Montana coach)

Rod Smith: University of Arizona co-offensive coordinator (wanted job 2 years ago but not interviewed then)

Steve Spurrier Jr.: Former South Carolina co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach

Mike Yurcich: Oklahoma State offensive coordinator

John DeFilippo: Former Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator (former JMU QB)

Bryan Stinespring: Former Virginia Tech tight ends coach (JMU alum)

DeFilippo everyone (including Jones) understands is not an option as he has already hit the NFL. Rumor has it Stinespring is also out according to "those in the know" on the boards.

Any interest on either side for former Tribe QB and JMU HC Rip Scherer? He might be considered too much of a retread in JMU fan's eyes. They probably want more of a young up-and-comer.

Of course, he would probably have to take a paycut to leave his administrative spot at ucla.

In this regard we are amateurs compared to the guys at gohens.

Start a thread on anything there and wait for it to degenerate into (and I say this with some affection because I admire their football passion)
1 - Why Keeler should not have gone.
2 - Why Keeler should have gone.
3 - Why Brock should not go.
4 - Why Brock should go.
5 - How fullback Tank Tankowski lumbered into the endzone from 5 yards out in 1966 despite having his right eye gouged out, and how someone recently ran into him, and he's doing fine as a laundry service rep in New Jersey.

Didn't Hauck have some real bad discipline issues at Montana?

i'd personally love to see him back, and I think most JMU fans would as well. For those that remember and know him, he is well thought of at JMU and we hated to lose him.

So, they've got THAT going for them...

That's funny. Wasn't this school featured in a comedy football movie? Why not throw Lou Holtz into the mix?

Looks like they offered the job to Citadel HC Mike Houston. No word on whether he will accept.

I wonder if he'll bring the triple option with him. We've struggled with that offense in the past.

Apparently Houston not a certainty... Source at JMU relays that former UNLV / Montana HC Bobby Hauck remains in the process (along w Houston).

Apparently 3 candidates:
Houston (Citadel HC)
Durden (Chattanooga OC)
Hauck (prior Montana HC)

Also rumored that all three coaches were on campus today. Kinda bizarre if true

I'm rooting for Hauck. He was terrible at UNLV and ran a super dirty program up in Montana. He's the man I want for the Dukes.

Says he will run an "aggressive spread offense"

I was hoping he would bring back the old "Duke Bone" offense that Purzcyki used to run in the late 80s. He was a Tubby Raymond disciple. Nothing would quiet the FBS chatter more than going back to the triple option. Houston ran triple option at Lenoir Rhyne.

It would seem logical that Houston would start out running a spread since the players he inherits were recruited to that style of offensive style. He should be able to attract a more athletic player than he could at The Citadel, also.
