RE: Game 9 - Elon
Against Elon, Cluley on Standard Downs: 16-20, 154 yards, 1 TD, 7 1st downs
Against Elon, Cluley on Passing Downs: 6-12, 68 yards, 4 1st downs

Cluley completed his first nine passes. 6 of those passes went for first downs, another went for 9 yards on 2nd and 16, and another was a 6 yard completion on 1st down. (The only unsuccessful completion was a 0 yard completion on 3rd and 3 that was thrown in just to make my blood boil a little during a wildly successful first quarter.) The passing game continues to move the chains. You combine the hot start of the passing game with a punt return TD and Elon turning the ball over and you get a game that's over by half. Two games in a row Cluley hasn't been sacked, and only one sack allowed in the last 4 games.

For the season, Standard Downs: 93-144, 65% completion, 993 yards, 6.90 YPA, 7 TDs, 42 1st downs, 6 sacks
For the season, Passing Downs: 68-126, 54% completion, 967 yards, 7.67 YPA, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, 41 first downs, 5 sacks

I don't understand why a backup QB doesn't play in blowouts.

Speaking of punts, on our first punt Elon#14 comes through the R center of our line completely untouched, around 2nd line again untouched, then, apparently not sure how to handle his good fortune, approaches Windmuller, stops and jumps as if to block a pass, when it looked like the punt block was there for the taking. Perhaps the camera angle from behind Windmuller is giving a false sense of the distances involved.

RE: Game 9 - Elon
It has great to have receiver after receiver step up when one goes down. Lots of younger guys who now have experience bodes well for the future, and with a QB and 4 OL who come back next year, and a starting RB, the passing game will be solid. Noted comments on Garner ( and his size), I have wondered about Carisle, he has some size, but has not played??

It is going to sound like I am talking out of both sides of my mouth.

The passing game is designed to create an open receiver based on the type of defense. The receivers are doing a great job running their routes to create that opening. For example on 44's 1st down drag catch, 22 ran a go taking the safety, 9 stayed in the flat, the linebacker tried, but couldn't keep up with 44 as he ran to the open area in between the safety and corner. It worked perfectly.

Later we tried to make two perfect passes to 11 in the corner of the end zone. Both were nice passes, the routes were designed to get 11 open, both were over thrown. On both of those, 22 was sitting underneath wide open, because they keyed on 11. Checking down might not have scored, but would have put us 1st and goal inside the 5. I believe our heavy package has done a pretty good job finishing.

What I'm saying is our receiver group has done a pretty good job this season, they all can be trusted to catch the ball if thrown to. By game 9 we have tendencies that if we play off of we can be even more successful in the passing game. Not complaining at all, love the QB and receiver play this year.

Also, Fetters INT, keeping feet in bounds was a pretty spectacular play for a LB. I know the guy has played a number of positions while at WM, receiver being one of them, but that was pretty athletic.

Excited to watch the next game against Towson. Zable should be very electric. Let's hope the students and fans play their role as they did vs Hampton and JMU!

Earlier posts had Caskin with the big block.

I watched it again in slo-mo. Definitely #38 Barta.

"David Petroni’s rugby punt bounced to Dedmon around midfield. Dedmon grabbed it and cut to the right sideline. He went mostly untouched and was aided by a massive block Mike Barta laid on Petroni, the last man for Dedmon to beat."

Good thing we cleared that up! ;-)

That is my fault, all big white dudes look the same to me.

Didn't want to create a new thread but sad news from Elon's campus. WR Demitri Allison fell from a 10 story residence hall and died. Don't want to assume what happened, but looks like mentally he was having some issues because the article states teammates and others were concerned about him.

Cannot believe that the mainstream sports media has not picked up on this story yet. This guy was the leading receiver for Elon. He caught five passes against William and Mary last weekend. What a tragic situation. I actually wonder if Elon will play their game this weekend.

Just terrible news. Good for his teammates to recognize that something wasn't quite right, but so sad they couldn't find him in time (if it was indeed a suicide rather than an accident).

Article above says that the dorm he fell from was actually at UNC-CH.

I think you may have the players mixed up, Beancounter. Allison had 12 catches on the year for 123 yards. Lennon is their leading receiver with 300+ yards.

You are right TribeNiner. Allison had 5 catches against us last weekend, but was NOT their leading receiver on the season to date.
