Triple Option teams are going to get their yards, you just have to keep them from the end zone and make them uncomfortable. I don't think App limits them to a certain amount of yards, I think they can win by giving up yards if they force field goals every other drive or so

The key for us will be to prevent the GS run game from completely dominating the time of possession and keeping our O and their D off the field. I have no expectations that our D will be able to stunt the GS run game, we have to keep from being completely dominated. I can't see how this isn't going to be a high scoring affair.

Wyoming runs an old school, power, smash mouth system. Often with two tight ends and a fullback. Those extra blockers occupied our OLB'ers and allowed them to get outside our containment. IMO they had the best OL we faced this year - including Clemson. Games like this most always come down to turnovers and big plays.

1-6 Wyoming OL better than Clemson? We love to power run.

i think your power run is a bit different than Wyo's. do you run the same running scheme as NDSU?

We do line up in 2 TE sets sometimes (H-back/TE's) and have also used some modified I-formation/wishbone looks in the shotgun. It's added a different dynamic to our inside running game.

We're an inside zone running team. We're gonna smash you in the mouth. The question is can ya'll take the punch?

A note for this past game, we were actually missing an OL who had a death in the family. We still looked great across the OL. Our coaches are doing a great job with these guys.

not even trying to talk smack, but when have you ever had a good passing attack?

Georgia Southern and a passing game are just not 2 things i ever equate with each other

Depends on what your definition of "passing attack" is.

For us it's " enough completions to add danger to the running game."

But even that has been lacking for us this season.

Maybe the law of averages will kick in and help us out this Thursday.

so, for you guys, 4/8 for 60-80 yards?

In our most successful years, we've averaged over 100 yards passing per game. Even then, we were still in the 10-15 attempts per game territory. We were much better at getting separation in those years though, hitting home runs more often.

The problem is this year, when the QB gets the ball to the receivers they drop it. When the receivers aren't being harassed and are open, our QB either sails the pass or puts it in the ground.

I'm honestly amazed at how bad our passing game has been this year.

We have nothing at WR. Losing Johnson hurt.

NMSU gave us the option pitch and we looked pretty good with it, as it seemed a bit rusty earlier in the season. Unfortunately for them they gave us the QB keep at the same time and KE burned them. There is more than one way to stretch the 8 men in the box D and getting on the corner definitely helped that. This is going to be a heck of a game, first O over 35 wins, GSU 38-35.

I believe you can throw out stats and records for this game, it will be won by preparation and execution. Unless you are a Georgia Southern fan then the Refs will always have something to do with it if you lose.04-chairshot

RE: NO SMACK - GaSouthern @ App State Thread
I don't see App State stacking the box to begin with. The front seven has been solid and has been injury-free. The secondary is the defensive question mark and need to avoid getting burned by the rare GaSo throw.

App was able too withstand a flurry from ULM and wore them down in the trenches. No-gains and one-yard gains turned into five and seven yard gains late in the game.

A lot of attention will be put on each team's backfield versus the opposing defense. App would appear to have the advantage in the passing game, but GaSo can be sneaky efficient throwing the ball.

My wife has a younger cousin from Atlanta who's a junior at Georgia Southern. I'm hoping to have a little bragging rights in the family after Thursday.

Wyoming's OL hasn't been their problem. Turnovers, a lot of new / young players finding their way (sounds familiar) and defensive mistakes resulting in big plays have undone the Pokes. Most App fans agreed we were glad to get them early in the year.

I'd take app and the points. I'm thinking App by 10.

What do you app fans think attendance will be? I know the students will show up in large numbers, what about the rest considering Thursday night game?

We're still recovering attendance-wise from Jerry's ousting and starting 5-13 afterward. But I'm feeling students will show up because of how big this game has gotten. Right around 30,000.

Kinda tough to tell considering a majority of our fans come from 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. The issue is a 7:30 Kickoff puts the game ending around 10-10:30. Then the ensuing traffic jam leaving Boone puts those people back home around 1 AM. Especially tough on those with kids in school. If it's my kid he's just going to have to forget that perfect attendance certificate. The people in our crowd are taking the afternoon and next day off.
