Personally, I say, forget about what everyone else was or was not doing as it has no bearing on our situation.

WW has basically been making the accusation since this story broke that Hud brought this guy into the Cajun program knowing full well he was dirty. I don't believe Hud to be a man who would do something so stupid, who would risk his own career for something so dumb, but I could be wrong, I often am.

If what WW is asserting is the truth, I want to know and am asking him to support his assertions with something tangible other than his printed word here.

As of right now, Hud and the rest of the Staff, Boosters and everyone else affiliated with the program has been found by both the University and the NCAA to not be involved......

For those interested, here's a link to a very good article written by Jay Walker (radio voice of the Cajuns) about how the process will play out.

Glass houses people.

The only thing we did wrong was be unlucky enough to hire an absolute snake.

This could have happened to any of you.

Very true. And it might. Because I've no doubt there are others out there just as snakey.

SB, I'm not sure your assertion is totally accurate. I say so not to cause trouble for anyone but do so in an effort to portray accurately what has been alleged.

The NCAA has claimed that cash payments were made to an athlete by Saunders, and apparently that athlete has claimed some of that money came from a well-known donor to the program. From what I understand, the University has challenged the veracity of that former athlete's claims.

Relevant article(in no way insinuating there is a ULL Donor doing this) :
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...-interview

Gives great examples of donors providing cash to athletes and how easy it can be.

A great article to read when you've got time.

Why wouldn't go ahead and do a self imposed post season ban this year and get at least one year out of the way? I don't see how it is not going to be a multiple year ban and not doing it this year will have a bad affect on future recruiting classes.

No lack of institutional control per NCAA.

I'll predict right now they will accept our self imposed punishment and that will be the end of it.

They know we had nothing to do with this.

I certainly don't speak for the university but imagine their thinking is along the following lines:

1)We've worked closely (and quickly) with the NCAA to learn all the facts.
2)We've provided the NCAA with all the information and testimony they've requested.
3)We've fired the coach accused in the ACT scheme.
4)We've vacated the 2011 season wins in which we admit an ineligible athlete or athletes particpated.
5)We've self-imposed sanctions in the form of reduced scholarships and recruiting access to athletes for several years.
6)We've applied a two-year probationary period on the football program.

There's no certainty that the final findings and punishment by the NCAA will occur before the end of this year. It's hoped that it'll be very early next year, before national signing day so that potential recruits and everyone involved with the program will know as soon as possible. It's also not known if additional sanctions, including a post-season ban, will be forthcoming from the NCAA.

All that taken into account, why punish the kids this year who have not participated in any wrongdoing?

RE: NCAA accuses UL of major recruiting violations
I think the problem that you are going to have is that the NCAA changed the rules three years ago to prevent the "I had no knowledge of that" excuse.

Take a peek at what they did to the SMU men's basketball team and I think you might get a relatively decent picture of what to expect. If your HC had nothing to do with this, it will certainly suck for him, but he'll be held accountable for what some tool bag AC did.

I don't see where the NCAA said that in the article.

I believe you are reading UL's response:

In fact, UL specifically points out in its response to the NCAA β€” in which is seeks to cushion the blow of penalties leveled β€” that β€œthe case does not involve a failure to monitor or a lack of institutional control.”

RE: NCAA accuses UL of major recruiting violations
They are vacating the most significant win in the history of the program; that being the 1st modern Bowl victory in UL history. This will no longer appear in the record books. This in itself is a huge and sad punishment for the university, the players who played in this game, and of course the fans. I feel really bad for Bret Baer who kicked a long field goal in the last seconds of the game to win the game for the Cajuns. His performance will be erased from the records.

Hell, Georgia Tech lost scholarships and had an ACC title taken away for $300 worth of clothes from an agent's representative (also his cousin) to a player.

I see a book getting thrown UL's way very soon.

If you read the response given to the, allegations you will see that the University has already self imposed some harsh penalties on itself including vacating the 2011 Season and Bowl victory. We may get more than that....or not, from the NCAA......who in the Hell ever knows.

Not trying to antagonize, but I don't see where the self-imposed stuff is harsh.

Vacated wins? How is that even a punishment? It's not like some ULL player or coaches name is being stripped of some prestigious record.

If a painful loss you endured 10 years ago gets vacated because the other team was up to something, do you really feel vindicated? IMO, all that vacated wins do is prop up the NCAA's ability to say that the records are right and fairly represented.

No, I don't know the athlete's name nor anything else about him. Apparently those in-the-know haven't thought very highly of him for some time now.

That is nice but vacating wins, firing a easily replaceable coach, and probation are meaningless and has zero affect. Typically the infractions ULL has admitted to carry more of a penalty much less the ones still being determined. Just going by what the article stated if the COI determines there is evidence payments were that is a huge additional charge. Hope the roll of the dice works out just based on experience non P5's usually don't just get to self impose.

Unless the COI has a smoking gun proving a cash payment was in fact made, then I don't see how the allegation can be proven. It's a "he said, he said" scenario. We provided in a our response that the same student-athlete's testimony regarding ACT testing did not corroborate with how Saunders was doing things. This helps prove that he was making things up to get back at Saunders and UL.

RE: NCAA accuses UL of major recruiting violations
The player in question of receiving benefits started his interview with a 4 minute rant of how pissed he was at David Saunders for screwing him over, how pissed he was that our coaching staff didn't use him correctly and ruined his career. Then claim Saunders would give him money in personal exchanges, would wait for said player to go make payment the wait for receipt... Yeah, that sounds legit. Said player said payment came from our most recognizable booster and most respected, somebody that all the players know and us around everywhere. The administration has proof this kid had the means to obtain this money, means that would destroy his credibility... To me, I take that he had a cash business going if you get what I'm saying. The administration is very confident there is no proof of payment and they have enough to discredit his story.
