NCAA accuses UL of major recruiting violations - CrimsonPhantom - 10-11-2015 05:41 PM

Quote:The NCAA has accused the UL football program of major recruiting-related rules violations, the school disclosed on Sunday following a public records request made by The Daily Advertiser on Thursday.

UL officials late Sunday afternoon publicly disclosed documents detailing the allegations as well as its response.

The Ragin’ Cajuns responded in late August to the Notice of Allegations from the NCAA, which accuses former assistant football coach David Saunders of wrongdoing.

After extensive reporting by The Daily Advertiser along with UL's disclosure it’s been learned the allegations are related to an academic eligibility issue involving the standardized test scores of multiple recruits signed by the Cajuns over the past few years, all after Mark Hudspeth took over as head coach of the team following the 2010 season.

Uh oh. Might be good news as Huds sure won't be leaving now. Of course assuming they can pin it all on the assistant and Huds can claim ignorance.

Who was that 4 star they signed? Dion Ray???

Merged both threads.

Just read the report. Scratch the above.

New Orleans bowl reps are panicking right now.

Oh my.

Even if it remains limited to a rogue assistant they are going to get punched in the face. If it goes beyond that they are going to get the wood-chipper. Those aren't bookkeeping errors.

That's a pretty serious allegation.

So much for the consecutive 9 win seasons. I can see the NCAA vacating all of the wins. Sucks for ULL and Hud, if he didn't know. That means they would have had a longer losing streak than USM.

Do what Miami and Florida do. Lawyer up and lock all doors.

If the Cajuns played in the Big 12, it would probably be a slap on the wrist, but since they play in a G5 league, probably multi year bowl ban out of this.

Our basketball did the same. Post season ban, 9 scholarship reductions and vacated wins. New rules are no joke and the NCAA now says the head coach should know what people on his staff are doing.

Depending on when sanctions come out Louisiana may be out of any bowl picture this year.

I really hope this will be just some lost scholarships over the next 2-3 years but we will see. These are some fairly serious allegations but hopefully cooperation and the fact no current coach seems to be involved will help

Hudspeth is going to face some heat because the head coach is supposed to have control of his own program. Cajuns made 4 bowl games off this, so you can pretty much guarantee a bowl ban is coming. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they self imposed one this season to see if the NCAA will let them off with that and a scholarship reduction.

man. I would love for the Eagles to play in NO this year.

It does lead to a good question of what the NO Bowl would do if the Cajuns did self impose. The Go Daddy has kind of made a big deal about taking the champ of late, but that's been because the NO Bowl never took the champ. Would New Orleans go for the champ without the Cajuns, or would they go for the best draw attendance wise? If they go for the best draw, I think South, Texas State, AState, and GS would be the top 4 draws for that game.

Not going to lie, I'd rather go to Orlando.

I swear... life of the Bobcats.

First year we might not have to worry about the Cajuns taking the NOLA bowl... and we suck. (yeah, I totally made this about us)

Regarding the allegations, I'm just gonna stay quiet until I hear the ruling. I will say I think it's a HORRIBLE joke (true, but horrible) that if they were P5, there'd be like a half mill fine and a stern talking to. But because they are G5, they'll probably try to throw the book at them.
