I wasn't talking specifically about Ohio State. Illinois has less talent than probably 10 or 11 B1G teams and Cubit can't do anything about it. Over the course of the season, that will matter, no matter how well (or poorly) Cubit does coaching them. That was my point.

Obviously they're going to schedule puff teams, everyone does. So congratulations niu, I guess you've been promoted out of puff status.

EDIT: Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio are all recruiting hot beds

Welcome to the party IL troll!

For a P5 to schedule what they have non conf. for about 4 yrs now pathetic. They play their FCS school, then have been playing schools that have been FBS for only a few years.... MTST, WKY, TXST just so they can go 3-1 nc, maybe 4-0 playing an avg FBS, 3-5, 2-6 in conf to go to a bowl game. Pretty smart I guess.

Face it. I know a few UI alumni. They feel their football program is pitiful, sports dept is in shambles. They get the laughable happiness every so often a great start, only to be fooled by less than mediocrity. You are so proud of your football program's record, scheduling and allegations presented against it that you feel the need to come on an NIU board to defend it?

Interesting. Perhaps a good look in the mirror well help, maybe a new set of glasses too. Perhaps then reality will kick in.

UofI Football, is due for their one good season in a decade. This year could be it.

Though seriously, whoever started this thread needs to be punched in the dick! LOL. Let's discuss, when they're actually relevant. Right now, Northwestern is ranked.

Cubit might actually be the coach they need, but there are bumps ahead for the program. I have no doubt that the AD will be on the chopping block as soon as the school's new chancellor is found and in place.

Where they're televised/watched/whatever matters, and yes they are puff teams, similar to how niu just played Murray state. People in Chicago already know what Illinois looks like.

I said how I didn't think Illinois was a good team, I also don't think niu is a good team this year. Illinois is at its absolute worst. Fired coach, advise allegations, bottom of big ten for years running, no one can deny that. What's funny is niu is at its absolute peak, maybe a little on the downward trend looking at national perspective and recruiting ranks, and its still arguable at best for you to say niu has a better team this individual year. I'm not defending Illinois saying they're top 25 and on the rise, I'm giving you a reality check that you're the only people who think this way about niu. I have yet to see any evidence provided to say niu is better outside of one persons infographic opinion posted months ago and out dated.

You're confusing apathy towards niu with fear.

NIU would wipe the floor with U of I. Of course we'd have to play in Champaign-Urbana because the Big Ten is full of wussies (with a p). But whatever, we'd still wipe the floor with them.

Yes, the Illini get higher rated recruits and rarely lose recruits to NIU.

No, that doesn't guarantee better results. In fact, it makes it even more pathetic when they perform worse on the field.

No, 8 votes in a poll don't mean ****.

Bragging about wins over WIU and Kent doesn't pass the laugh test.

If you're insecure enough to troll another school's message board, you don't get to say how "cute" it is.

NIU is 5-3 vs the B1G since playing Purdue in 2009, and none were at home. When's the last time Illinois put up a 5-3 B1G record?

Yes, 5 years is a long time to schedule another school. But it's no accident that Illinois has avoided scheduling NIU when the Huskies have been good (the 2010 meeting was scheduled before NIU took off under Jerry Kill). It has nothing to do with new fertile recruiting grounds or time. The Illini have over decades demonstrated that they are ******* and unwilling to schedule in state teams who are doing well. They wouldn't play top 10 Bradley or top 10 Loyola in the 1950s and 60s. They didn't play DePaul in the 1980s. They wouldn't schedule SIU when they were making multiple Sweet 16s in the 2000s. It's their longstanding institutional policy to avoid playing in state teams when they're good because they'd rather just rest on their (fading) brand and reputation.

Now, they don't have any obligation to play in state teams when they're good. But it makes them *******.

I'm surprised you didn't reference your win vs Alabama 15 years ago while you're at it. You beat bottom feeding big ten teams over 5 or so years. You also lost to Illinois while you still had one of your good qbs 5 years ago. You can't just scream rematch and accuse someone of being scared cause they haven't beaten you recently enough for your and only your liking. In that 5-3 record there was no OSU, msu, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Michigan win, only Purdue, Iowa, and northwestern, teams that Illinois, along with a lot of others, beat in that time period.

They only thing that prevents NIU right now from competing at a second level year in and out in a P5 is depth, a play maker or 2. But they have been getting more play makes that have enabled them to compete. It's hard to get to the next step, but NIU is making strides. I don't think most who are objective can argue that. I am not someone who would say NIU would beat every big 10 team, even 2nd tier down every time. But NIU has shown they can beat these team, especially early in the year. If NIU played a whole league schedule, I don't know. But they surely wouldn't be out of any game outside of games vs top 3-4 teams every yr. This year, outside top 2. And look at it this way, NIU has 4 yr players. SEC teams get ravaged of underclassmen. Some B10. But not the IL, Iowa even Nebraska or PSU of the world. That is their advantage now and they still can't win consistently on the national level.

That's cute. In the past 5 years Illinois has not beaten Iowa, and beat Purdue by 4 in 2013 (NIU beat Purdue that year 55-24, and U of I also lost multiple times to Purdue that time span while NIU beat Purdue twice), and won at NU last year at the end of the year when NU was down to their water boy playing QB.

Illinois sucks and NIU would crush them today.

Well yeah, when teams go about .500 it tends to reflect wins against the bad teams and losses against the good teams. If you manage to go .500 you'll see what I'm talking about.

IIRC Jerry Kill suffered a seizure right before that 2010 game which was very entertaining. It was also one of the best attended noncon games that year at Memorial Stadium. A rematch makes too much sense, but it won't until the Illini feel NIU has cratered.

We go w/ Ill State now, ISU is reserved for a real school in Iowa, not a teacher's college in central illinois with a unaccomplished football team.

Thats funny stuff considering football is pretty much the only thing NIU is better than ISU at... and even that gap is closing quickly.. last week, NIU had 18K fans in their 23K stadium while ISU sold out their 14K place..

Apathetic fans troll other teams' message boards all the time!

Well I'm not on the scheduling committee nor do I have a high ranking position on the football program.
