RE: UNCW Soccer
Very nice score line!

Duke was ranked 16 going into this game. No losses and only 1 tie. Excellent road win against a top 20 ACC school. Well done

Next up is our conference opener, Saturday night at 7 on the road against Hofstra who is on the cusp of the top 25 (#30 in the latest poll). Will be a tough match and coming off a huge win I hope there is no letdown.

We've now outscored opponents 19-3 in our last 4 games, and 21-4 overall. This team is legit.

RE: UNCW Soccer
Meanwhile, when it comes to the rest of the CAA in the polls: Elon is ranked 20th and is poised to move up after taking down 7th-ranked Wake Forest last night. Hofstra, who we face on the road this Saturday, is just outside the top 25. They received 26 votes in the poll, which would put them 30th overall.

I also just noticed that Denver, where our old friend Peg Bradley-Doppes is still Vice Chancellor for Athletics, is currently ranked 15th in the Men's Soccer poll. The 15 sports she oversees for the Pioneers have won a combined 79 conference titles in the 10 years she's been there. Wow.

I have a cherished photo of my daughter being handed her diploma by Chancellor DePaulo. I'd pay a lot to exchange it for a picture of her getting that diploma from Chancellor Leutze or Peg. Peg was a keeper.

Women's team (5-3-0) faces ECU (4-3-1) tonight at 7 in Greenville. ECU is on a 3-game winning streak and the Seahawks have taken 4 straight, so barring a draw, something has to give. After this match the Women travel to Wake Forest (2-2-2) on Sunday before beginning conference play at home.

I wonder if we'll start seeing the Women's team get some love in the national polls soon on the heels of this 5-game winning streak.

Depends on the quality/rank of the opposition.

Well 2 of the 3 losses the women's team have had this year came against ranked opponents. So that at least helps our strength of schedule.

Looking at our recent stretch where we've won 6 of 7, only one 2 of those wins were against teams that currently have a winning record (George Mason and Campbell, both 4-3). ECU is 4-4-1 now. So it appears we'll still have work to do to get top 25 votes.

Wake Forest, our next opponent on Sunday in Winston-Salem, is 3-2-2 on the season.

Hofstra nipped the hawks tonight 2-1 up in NY. Tough close loss to a really good team. Next up is our conference home opener next Saturday night against Northeastern.

Bass era has definitely upped the ante with volleyball, softball and the success of track and field, men's and women's soccer and of course, basketball. To the naysayers I say, you won't change my mind.

Couldn't agree more. The results speak for themselves. There are certainly areas that can be improved, but overall you cannot argue that our athletic programs are hitting on all cylinders.

RE: UNCW Soccer
We moved up from 24th to 22nd in the D-I Men's coaches poll after beating # 16 Duke and then falling to a good Hofstra team, all on the road.

As somewhat expected, the voters viewed it more as a bad loss for Duke than us being truly legit. Duke, who also lost to # 14 Clemson on Friday, dropped from 16th to being not ranked and only receiving 1 vote for the top 25.

Elon, now 7-0-0, moved up from 20th to 8th after knocking off Wake Forest. Hofstra leapfrogged us to 18th in the poll, which is strange, given that they were not ranked (30th most votes) and their only match last week was their win over us.

The Women's team did not receive votes in the Women's Soccer coaches poll, but we are 51st in the RPI. Men's Soccer is 27th in the RPI.

Nice! Maybe we'll move up in the coach's poll this week as well.

Look for the Women's team to maybe be ranked this week as well. Drexel, who we beat on Friday for our 7th straight win, was ranked 6th in their regional poll. And I'm not sure that our 2-2 draw with Delaware will hurt us.

This seems like a fun time to be a student at UNCW. Reminds me of the golden years we had in the early 2000's.

Crap I'm getting old.

One of my students today told me she was in 1st grade on 9-11. Yikes.
