Does Tech still have plans to field a baseball team one day?

Right now we're torn between baseball and water polo. Since they're both about equal in importance, we might as well seek to excel in one as in the other.

We did hire a new baseball coach last year. We have high hopes that he's a good one. We'll see. Baseball is not our highest priority though.

By the way, did you know that the NCAA women's soccer championship had better TV ratings this year than the college world series did? Look it up. Women's soccer is more popular than college baseball. That says it all. I mean, what has ULL's baseball program gotten you guys? It hasn't done any more for you than our WBB did for us. The only things that matters in the real world are football and MBB. Will you ever come to terms with the fact that nobody gives a chit about college baseball?

What's our baseball program gotten us? How about something you claimed above is important to your program.....increasing fan support.

And to illustrate my point, I'll play the game using your own words.

By the way, did you know that Ragin Cajun baseball had more fan support than LaTech football? Look it up. In 2014 a total of 145,859 Cajun fans paid to watch Cajun baseball. Do you know how many fans paid to watch LaTech football?.......100,272.

Ragin Cajun baseball is more popular than LaTech football. That says it all. Will you ever come to terms with the fact that nobody gives a chit about LaTech football?

BTW, those baseball attendance numbers rank the Cajun program at No. 10 in the nation. I looked for LaTech's numbers, but the list only goes to 50.

Apples and Oranges.

But thanks for illustrating my point that nobody gives a chit about college baseball. By your own admission, fewer than 150,000 tickets were sold for all of the home games that were played at ULL for an entire season. That was still good enough for ULL to rank #10 in the nation in attendance. Do I really need to say any more than that in order to prove that nobody gives a chit about college baseball?

I asked you to compare the TV ratings of the college world series to those of the women soccer championship series, but as usual, you instead find a way to inject La Tech into the conversation. Why must you always try to measure yourself against La Tech? Anyway, do you even understand what TV ratings are?

La Tech played only five home games last year. We averaged a little over 20,000 per game, and no, we were not ranked #10 in the nation in football attendance. Far, far too many people give a chit about college football for us to ever make even the top 25 in attendance. Maybe even the top 50.

Writing is on the wall, the CUSA TV contract is probably going drop quite a bit. He's getting out of dodge before its announced. Working for the CFB Playoff must pay better too.

I'm rooting for the COOSA on this one. They are pretty close to a lateral conference vs the SBC these days and the better they do the better we should do on our own TV deal in the next few years.

Alright, you win BR. How can I possibly come back against such sound logic that averaging over 3800 fans for almost 40 games in a season are unimportant to an athletic program?

I guess the Cajun program will just have to consol itself and keep hanging out with the likes of LSU, Alabama, A&M, Clemson, Florida State, Texas, etc while you guys hang out with........well, whoever it is that shares the C-USA baseball basement with you guys these days.03-lmfao

He doesn't hate college baseball. He hates the fact that his guys are getting skull-dragged by every team in C-USA and probably averaging a couple of hundred fans a game. Otherwise he wouldn't be ignoring the fact that the big guys have invested millions in facilities, coaches, and recruiting because of the prestige it brings to their athletic programs and their universities. No, to him, it's somehow almost meaningless to LaTech's program.....the one that he claims is trying to increase fan interest.01-wingedeagle

I never said I hate college baseball. I said that I, like the vast majority of people (as proven by the crappy TV ratings the CWS drew), don't give a chit about it. If Tech was playing in it, I would have probably tried to watch it, but since we weren't, I didn't give it a second thought.

You guys have a good baseball program that you are proud of. I have no problem with that at all, but don't get carried away about how much prestige it brings to ULL. College baseball is not a money making sport except at the very few schools with elite programs. And those elite programs are only marginally profitable.

Those "big boys" that are investing millions in baseball facilities can afford to do it because of the money they're making in football and MBB. That's truly where the prestige comes in to play.

Marshall and La Tech. WKU?? I just don't see a whole lot although the conference is deeper than the SBC. A program like MTSU is solid, but they seem to have a ceiling that they will never break through.

I would take Ga Southern, App, ULL, Ark St, TX St over any top 5 you can come up with in CUSA. And remember, Ga Southern and App have barely transitioned so most of the additional 22 FBS scholarships are for Redshirt Freshman and Freshman just arriving on campus. Hard to believe we won't improve.

Let's compare the top five you listed for the Sun Belt to C-USA's "any top five". I decided to use C-USA's five bowl teams from last year (Marshall, WKU, La Tech, Rice, and UTEP), looked at the results of the last 5 years between your five and our five, and found that the Sun Belt's five were an aggregate 3-8 against ours during that time.

I figured that wasn't a big enough sample, so I looked at Sun Belt vs. C-USA overall for the last 5 years, and found that the Sun Belt is an aggregate 46-54 there. So overall, you guys stack up a bit more evenly from top to bottom.

Based upon the aggregate results from top to bottom over the past five years, I'd agree that the conferences aren't that far apart right now. I'll add though that no one's "scared" and that you should expect to find a lot of C-USA posters on a thread about the C-USA commissioner.

And speaking personally, I like to visit here and the AAC because aside from C-USA, our three boards seem to be the most active among the G5, and are therefore the most entertaining. It's also a nice change of pace, and during the summer, there just isn't much to talk about anyway, so it can get bland pretty fast confining yourself to one board.

I appreciate the decency of your post. What I was saying was they/you post more in threads we post to talk or compare ourselves to our rivals. Honestly not a bad thing, I consider our conference and Coosa to be peers and the scared ref. Was based off the actual attempt to factually debate, Coosa fans don't seem to be as big on just saying no we are better in every way now. This isn't because Coosa got worse since I joined imo but because the belt has improved substantially. I look forward to playing all cusa teams we can in the future as I find them to be competitive.
