RE: Completely OT: your five favorite TV shows of all time.
Frazier, That 70s Show, Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother all have the same type of humor. They have an effeminate male lead character repeatedly making a fool of himself. I Love Lucy is kind of the same thing with a woman lead. They are all funny the first time, but I just don't like seeing them make fools of themselves again. Humor doesn't appeal to everyone, much like the dark humor of MASH.

the tonight show with Johnny Carson
all in the family
sanford and son
seinfeld
saturday night live - belushi through eddie murphy years

next five:

wkrp in cincinnati
hogan's heroes
cheers
the jeffersons
gilligan's island

it's strange....I never could get into mash....

to toss out an added twist on the subject.....my 5 most despised:

hee-haw
grand ole opry
rosanne
i love lucy
laverne and shirley

next five I despised:

leave it to beaver
my three sons
the flying nun
captain kangaroo
petticoat junction

needless to say, I gave up sitcom/drama viewing many moons ago....

MASH is a certain type of humor that not everyone appreciates.

I appreciated and mostly understood the humor.....it just didn't pique my interest at 7-17 yrs of age...I was basically indifferent to it.....I still watch the original movie from time to time....

The best music shows.

The Arthur Smith Show (syndicated show out of Charlotte)
Hee Haw (great guests and you gotta love Grandpa Jones)
The Midnight Special
Austin City Limits (not nearly as good in recent years)
Song of the Mountains (bluegrass)
Don Kirshner's Rock Concert
Teenage Frolics (60s era black dance program out of Raleigh)

The original MASH movie was really dark humor.

The History Channel used to show history, the Weather Channel used to show weather, and MTV used to show music videos.

Shocking.

Those are 2 more that I loved. Comcast had a channel that showed Hee Haw reruns, but that channel is gone now. Don't watch the GOO much any more b/c the music is terrible. I sure do miss the Opryland theme park, too. Many fun trips there as a kid.

Why? Did he also double as a network executive, and not tell anyone?

01-wingedeagle show had a solid budget and a prime time spot on UPN (7 pm) so I don't blame the network executives

Bakula acted more like a princess than a starship captain...Berman and Braga were also mailing it in as they say.

You're wrong, as always...07-coffee3

The network execs were responsible for the "Temporal Cold War" storyline that permeated the first 2 seasons. So once again, you know not what you speak. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I know you'll fail.

And if handled correctly, it could have been good TV...hell, the guy who played Silik was a veteran Trek actor who brought more to his character than Bakula ever did.

The three Bs screwed that show up...Berman, Braga, and Bakula

Thank goodness they let Ron Moore and Ira Steven Behr run DS9 for the most part.

The Temporal Cold War was dumb. ST:ENT only had to do two things; introduce audiences to some of the founding Federation races and serve as a prelude to the Romulan War. On the balance, it missed more than it hit regarding those objectives.

In Loving Color had some great skits...timeless.
Good Times paved the way for Cosby. Groundbreaking...the show had a lot of heart for a sitcom.
