Looks like we get Japan tomorrow thanks to one of the most devastating goals I have ever seen. Right idea by the defender but just came wrong off of her foot. Inch or 2 higher and they likely are going to OT.

Independence Day...time to reflect on our Alma Mater of a Nation moniker. Tomorrow, we hope to have another alum in Jill Ellis become a national hero.

Great piece in the post on Ellis and John Daly. Good for recruiting.

This is beautiful. Solo was an inch or two from saving the lone goal. Shutout would have been great, but that may be a bit picky when to World Cup is on the line.

If soccer had this much offense, on a regular basis, it would be a much more popular sport to US fans.

Including this game (with 20 minutes to go), FIFA website has Solo with only 14 saves in 7 games with 5 of those against Australia in the opening game and no more than 2 saves in any other game (so far 2 in this game). The D has been strong. She hasn't had to do much.

Just a thought, it would be really neat to have Jill Ellis to campus to commemorate her efforts. A quick look at schedules and parents weekend has a home football game and a home women's soccer game. Have her honored at halftime of the football game, and then something at the women's soccer game too.

Whatever W&M has done to commemorate Mike Tomlin's Super Bowl coaching performance, the same should be done for Jill Ellis ... and then some.

Congrats to Coach Ellis ... one of W&M's own! Just outstanding!

...with a little assist from a Rutgers / Jersey girl! :-)

I'm over the moon right now. This is what the US Men's team could do if our boys grew up predominantly playing 3 or 4 sports instead of several. I'm not advocating we get rid of football...not at all...but just imagine our greatest athletes focusing on soccer (i.e. Europe and Latin America). Deion Sanders would've been an unstoppable midfielder.

So proud of our coach, players, and staff.
