Fire all the coaches who aren't W&M grads, replace them with W&M grads, win championships. Seems simple enough.

Another major recruiting angle:

*2 Alums are Coaches of Championship teams at the highest level.
*Only Mid-major school to have draftees in NFL/NBA/MLB

Yes!

The CAA is capable of fielding great soccer teams with our NC to Boston footprint. This, Cali, KC, and the Pacific Northwest are the soccer hotbeds of America.

And for all the soccer fans out there, don't forget the CONCACAF Gold Cup kicks off tomorrow. What's at stake? The U.S. currently has secured at least a playoff for the CONCACAF berth to the FIFA Confederations Cup, but if we win the tournament we would win the bid outright. We're playing very well as of late, and traditional rival Mexico is playing terrible (very poor showing in the recent Copa America), so a chance for us to win this one.

And Akron, for some random reason.

What a few weeks:

*Marcus drafted #35 in the NBA Draft by the Celtics.

*W&M only team in the nation outside seventeen from the five major conferences to have players
drafted in the NFL, NBA, and MLB drafts.

*Women's basketball program gets 3.5 million dollar gift from former player

*Head coach, Jill Ellis '88 leads Team USA to World Cup Championship

Heady days around the Athletic Department!

Somehow I don't these last few posts are going to help us pull in that 4-star b-ball recruit that will put us over the top.

It blows my mind that the '99 team did not get a ticker tape parade. That team was all over *everything* then.

I think most people were not yet on board with women's sports in '99. Thankfully, and probably because of global success, we've grown to embrace exceptional athletes of both sexes to include those participating in less popular sports (Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong, Danica Patrick, Lindsey Vonn, women's soccer, Michael Phelps, and Lolo Jones). We tune in for anything with a USA label on it.

Assume in the cover they are talking about the midfield goal as the greatest goal in US history. While impressive, that goal made it 4-0 and cannot be considered the greatest ever. I'd consider the greatest ever those that were important in clutch times.

Donovan's goal against Algeria - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChuABNQOotM (Last minute goal to advance us to next round)

Wambach's goal against Brazil - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvGfV6qCiOI (OT header goal to tie it up in 120+ minute to bring to penalties that we won to advance to the semis)

Donovan's goal against Slovenia - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvWOdloiJVw (brought it to down 2-1 on an awesome side goal that later was tied by Bradley. Lose this game and who cared about Algeria game)

Paul Caligiuri against Trinidad in 1989 to advance us to the 1990 World Cup. This may be the greatest goal because if not for it, the Americans do not play in the 1990 World Cup and are hosting 1994 without the experience previously gained. It led to our first WC appearance since 1950. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgIYjOWuuvI

Joe Gaetjens goal against England in 1950 for the 1-0 win for the huge upset - no video exists of the goal but there is video with the goal in the back of the net. First World CUp win since 1930 and last World Cup win for 44 years for the Americans

And of course, the Chastain goal in PKs to win it in 1999 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbTiiAtLXnE

Sure there are others (but not a lot) but those are amongst the biggest American goals in WC (and qualifier) history.

No idea which one I'd pick, but I do remember that Donovan goal standing out if for no other reason than our offense had been so stagnant until then (after a great surge in the Confederation's Cup the year before) and to see him take it straight in and fire point blank at what looked like a terrified keeper. Also, credit to the Slovenian defender for totally missing and allowing the ball to get to Donovan.

Don't miss those vuvzelas one bit.
