It is all going to depend on what the NCAA does here. Let's say we have 10 guys on campus and another 5 who want to come back. If these guys don't count against our numbers, we need to add 70 players. If we are allowed to recruit in 2015 and 2016, and they allow us 5 extra scholarships each time, that leaves us with ten scholarships. I understand that's not ideal, but it's close to the limit at that point. If we load up on jucos and transfers, we could be okay. The problem is we would be really old, and need to balance the classes quickly. It's not impossible to field a competitive team in 2016. Hell, look what Clark was able to do last year. If the NCAA throws us a few waivers, I think this could be a really quick rebuild.

We're going to take our lumps in 2016, no two ways about it. I think that it is important to get back at it in C-USA as fast as possible though. I think FCS is a loser.

Also, does UAB get penalized or put on probation for not sponsoring the required number of Division I sports in 2015-2016?

C*USA's role is likely to be as a lobbyist on behalf of UAB at the NCAA, since they've already made it clear they're willing to do what it takes to help UAB at the conference level.

We will be young, have only @ 80 players but i think if anyone can make it work it is Coach Clark.

Gettr Done Coach!

2016 or BUST!!

Of the 31 still on campus, I would wager 80% will complete their education by 2016.

Those that haven't taken a redshirt yet could do it for 2015, right? Do you have to have a team playing games in order to count as a redshirt?

That's correct. Charlotte signed a recruiting class a year before fielding a team and redshirted all of them. The team (as it is) would be allowed to practice all fall even with no scheduled games while maintaining the redshirt status of those players.

Is men's track canceled? Or will it last one year and then be canceled?

Did it even get started? I'm of the understanding that the reinstatement of football, bowling, and rifle essentially negates the other changes. If men's track actually happens, then another women's sport will have to be added because there will be a Title IX imbalance.

RE: Is Coach Clarks goal 2016?
As far as scheduling goes my thoughts are that we'd probably be probationary in that we'd not be eligible for a conference champ or bowl even if we won them on the field due to playing so many FCS teams. With so many FBS teams already having filled their 2016 schedules our OOC games will be filled w/ FCS teams but we'd probably play our normal conference schedule. We'd just be short numbers & quality depth like we were in Callaway's first year & take some lumps.

Heck, I'm probably alone in thinking that Coach Clark needs to find us four or five Division III opponents for 2015. Just to keep the jitters down.

I strongly doubt we will have the resources and organization in place.

Schedule a cupcake to start 2016 at home. The rest of 2016 do what we can to get in C*USA's good graces as far as scheduling, but since we are not competing for a bowl I'd suggest taking 3 or 4 body bag games just for the money and the exposure. "What is the Tide Afraid of?" could be a funny homecoming theme for our opponents.

schedule a cupcake? There are no 'cupcakes' when you are starting a football program from scratch

I wish people would stop saying UAB is building a program from scratch. Yeah, we had a one year death penalty but there is a ton of infrastructure in place already. South Alabama started from scratch. BSC started from scratch. We're ahead of the game in a number of ways.

Would kill a year of eligibility for players...

NCAA has told the AP that players on scholarship at UAB for 2015 will be losing a year of eligibility anyway, unless they apply for waivers, regardless if UAB plays a game in 2015.

I think most waivers would be granted. They just want the players to go through the process. Besides if a player has a redshirt year left playing in 2015 would exhaust it...

I am sure FBHC Clark is thinking 2016, but his thinking may be affected by delays in facility improvements. If nothing gets actually added in 2015 or 2016, he may not want to start so early. Of course, if additional facility improvements are blocked by BOT or local administrators (Watts?) as was reported before the shutdown, he may not want to stay at UAB at all.

He would probably recruit just like he did before - heavy on JUCOs (9 were from Cal. and 4 from MS for 2014) and then fill in with high school players in Feb. who he thinks promising. Since he will have to await NCAA rulings on waivers for those who never left or returned, those numbers will be determined later. Since UAB is like a phoenix / dragon arising from its ashes, the pressure to win right away will be minimal.

Has anyone heard how our 3 QBs performed at USA this spring? Two were freshmen so might want to return if 2016 is our goal.

Chipoletti is no longer on the team. Not sure he'd want to sit out another year, though(he sat out last year).

Chipoletti was touted by some as the likely starter for UAB in 2015 - even over Clements. What about Orth (sp?) who was a frosh?
