Good grief, will there be an Austin Bowl?
If this has already been posted, then just ignore it like you do me.

Quote:No firm decision yet on whether Austin gets bowl game in 2015

The NCAA has certified Austin for a bowl game, but organizers still don’t have a sponsor, venue, network, date or specific conference tie in.

Lance Aldridge, executive director of the Austin Sports Commission, told the American-Statesman that “everything is fluid.” He said he should know within the next two to three weeks whether putting on a bowl in 2015 is feasible.

Austin submitted a bowl bid, April 1. The NCAA certified the bid, Tuesday.

“We’re juggling balls, big time,” Aldridge said.

“If we do this,” Aldridge said, “we do it the right way.”

Randy Cohen, owner of TicketCity.com, told the American-Statesman he’s still in talks to be the title sponsor for the Austin bowl.

Aldridge has been meeting with officials from the University of Texas about having the game at Royal-Memorial Stadium.

The bowl schedule will be announced next month.

Reports in ESPN.com and CBSSports.com said the Austin bowl will feature teams from the American Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt.

However, Aldridge said there is no firm agreement with any conference. He said he still is speaking with leagues about tie ins to the bowl.

Aldridge also still is in negotiations with NBC and CBS about broadcasting the game.

If the conference tie ins are the AAC and Sun Belt, state teams are a possibility. Texas State plays in the Sun Belt, while SMU and Houston are in the AAC.

Yeah there is a lot of moving parts, but it sounds like TicketCity wants to be the sponsor so that should resolve itself.
Date is fluid, but that wont be resolved until the network is locked down. Talking with CBS and NBC might work since they dont have a lot of games compared to ESPN/ABC.

To me, the question is going to be location.
For most of the country, Austin Bowl immediately conjures the idea DKR (UT's Stadium).
At 101,000 I think DKR is too damn big for a G5 matchup. No matter who plays, the place will look empty for that massive stadium.

Backup locations I've seen suggested on other sites, and heard on the radio-
Dell Diamond (home of the AAA Round Rock Express). 25 miles north of downtown Austin. Baseball stadium. Holds 11,000 people. Bad idea

Mike Myers UT Track and Field / Soccer Complex . Heart of Downtown next to DKR to give the Austin experience and skyline for shots. Holds 20,000 (but temp bleachers could be brought in). Better than Round Rock.

Bobcat Stadium. 30 miles south of downtown Austin. Football Stadium. Holds 30,000. Right size for a small bowl game but "not Austin" in the traditional sense.

Also, I've heard -
House Park. Downtown Austin. Holds 6500 setup for minor league soccer. Not a bad location, but 6500 would be stupid for a bowl game.
Burger Stadium. High school holds 15000. Bowl game in a high school stadium? GTFO

House Park and Burger Center are both old and both suck eggs. My kids HS played numerous times in House Park and Burger Center was used for Band Regionals. Just.....................no!

How do they approve a bowl when the city that is trying to put on the bowl hasn't nailed down the venue??? This is stupid......

I love the look of the reno. Who was the architect that did the design?
I hate the contemporary look that some of the newer stadiums are going for.
I'm interested to see what our major upper deck reno will look like. I'd prefer they'd go more traditional while incorporating the UL brick color (yes, there is a certain patented brick color) into parts of the stadium. I want concrete, no metal, except for the seats. I'm not super crazy about the look of the concession/restroom building that they built as part of our SEZ expansion, and I hope they don't stick to that throughout.

If they do not have a proper stadium to host a bowl games then they shouldn't be getting a bowl game. I already know that San Antonio has a bowl, and Houston, but these cities have proper venues to accommodate the fans, and players.
