Good grief, will there be an Austin Bowl? - CajunFanatico - 05-07-2015 08:43 AM If this has already been posted, then just ignore it like you do me. Date is fluid, but that wont be resolved until the network is locked down. Talking with CBS and NBC might work since they dont have a lot of games compared to ESPN/ABC. To me, the question is going to be location. For most of the country, Austin Bowl immediately conjures the idea DKR (UT's Stadium). At 101,000 I think DKR is too damn big for a G5 matchup. No matter who plays, the place will look empty for that massive stadium. Backup locations I've seen suggested on other sites, and heard on the radio- Dell Diamond (home of the AAA Round Rock Express). 25 miles north of downtown Austin. Baseball stadium. Holds 11,000 people. Bad idea Mike Myers UT Track and Field / Soccer Complex . Heart of Downtown next to DKR to give the Austin experience and skyline for shots. Holds 20,000 (but temp bleachers could be brought in). Better than Round Rock. Bobcat Stadium. 30 miles south of downtown Austin. Football Stadium. Holds 30,000. Right size for a small bowl game but "not Austin" in the traditional sense. Also, I've heard - House Park. Downtown Austin. Holds 6500 setup for minor league soccer. Not a bad location, but 6500 would be stupid for a bowl game. Burger Stadium. High school holds 15000. Bowl game in a high school stadium? My kids HS played numerous times in House Park and Burger Center was used for Band Regionals. Just.....................no! RE: Good grief, will there be an Austin Bowl? - Usajags - 05-07-2015 05:39 PM How do they approve a bowl when the city that is trying to put on the bowl hasn't nailed down the venue??? This is stupid...... RE: Good grief, will there be an Austin Bowl? - CajunFanatico - 05-07-2015 05:47 PM First class. Who was the architect that did the design? I hate the contemporary look that some of the newer stadiums are going for. I'm interested to see what our major upper deck reno will look like. I'd prefer they'd go more traditional while incorporating the UL brick color (yes, there is a certain patented brick color) into parts of the stadium. I want concrete, no metal, except for the seats. I'm not super crazy about the look of the concession/restroom building that they built as part of our SEZ expansion, and I hope they don't stick to that throughout. RE: Good grief, will there be an Austin Bowl? - Bigtom12 - 05-08-2015 05:27 AM If they do not have a proper stadium to host a bowl games then they shouldn't be getting a bowl game. I already know that San Antonio has a bowl, and Houston, but these cities have proper venues to accommodate the fans, and players. |
