RE: Dodd: College football conference title game restrictions to be relaxed by 2016
This makes life easier on the SBC to get rid of Idaho, and allows the league the potential to hold it's invites for the best of FCS. No more Warm Body quotient unless so much realignment happens the status as a league is threatened.
Probably really bad news for Liberty and Jacksonville State, whose FBS transitions primarily depended on the SBC Needing 12 for a title game. The SBC still probably needs 12 for basketball purposes, but in theory, it could dump Idaho and play 10 football at any point.

Exactly,
I don't think that this means necessarily that Idaho will be turfed out. But Idaho and Hawai'i are on thinner ice now.
This doesn't change the FBS chances of JMU or Missouri State much.
This harms the candidacy of EKU - a lot.
This severely harms the candidacy of Liberty, Lamar, and Jacksonville State.

At what point do NMSU and Idaho have to given the 2 year notice? By Dec 31 of this year or is it much sooner that?

This really sucks for UMass too.

If we're going to cut them...June 30th, 2016.

Ideal situation for the SBC would be to add UAB with hopes they could add football and Missouri St and drop NMSU and Idaho. This would add two quality programs within the footprint while eliminating the outliers.

So what I'm reading, it is ok for Alabama to have 3 SBC teams, as long as it's not Jax St...

The AD at Idaho recently stated that all indications are that the Vandals were going to get extended. If you think about it, then really don't effect college football playoff revenue. The SBC will get $1 million per school for up to 12 schools. That does not change with or without Idaho.
This is not really a surprise development. This proposed change will allow a conference to determine the process for crowning a champion. I still think the SBC will want a 12th all-sports school. I don't anything has changed. The SBC is still in the same place they were in yesterday.

Would love 10 and invite a Eastern Basketball school to get to 12 in Oly Sports....9 Conference games and everyone plays everyone

I don't think this means anything for CUSA. They will either take someone else or they won't. They weren't missing a CCG anyway. It does mean the SBC doesn't need to go to 12 right away. We can afford to wait until someone is right. Let people vie for it and then pick the best of the bunch. We don't have to take a school like Liberty, or a Missouri State or EKU who might not be ready.

I think there will be some lively discussion at the May conference meetings but unless JMU is ready to accept an invite I would doubt you will see an invitation coming out of that meeting this year.

This.
This decision simply solidifies the conventional wisdom that the Sun Belt action plan is
1) JMU
2) Missouri State
3) Missouri State and JMU
4) No one else

I think it has become very clear that unless the conference is in survival mode that both UMass and Liberty will not be invited.

I never saw this coming! Great news! Let the conferences decide how they determine their champion and put an end to the madness!

This underscores my proclamation from going on 3 years ago stating there was no need to buy into Benson and his bull**** panic and invite schools who weren't ready. Oh for God's sake. What a shame.
We would be in excellent shape as a conference without his unmatched stupidity and influence in making irrational decisions.
Worst hire in history.
He needs to be selling used cars where he couldn't wreck so many lives.

Senatobia being Senatobia. He has been railing against having more than 3 schools in a conference for a while now.
