The NIT has been reluctant to replay regular-season matchups in the 1st round in the past, so I'm not sure ODU or Richmond is going to happen, at least not in round 1.

Sorry, my mistake, it was a 2 vs 7 - W&M and Stanford.

8 seeds now listed as Charleston Southern, Bucknell, Montana and St Francis NY.

1 seeds now listed as Miami FL, Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Indiana.

The site is DRatings.com - they update daily and cover both NCAA and NIT.

RE: NIT
You never know with Richmond. They could wind up winning the A-10 tourney since the A-10 tourney seems like they always have an upset winner and an extra team in the tournament. They are beating VCU by 4 with about 10 to go in the QFs and have won 6 straight. Davidson, who they play in the semis if they win, only beat a subpar LaSalle team by 1 earlier today on a shot with 1 second remaining after LaSalle scored no points in the final 4:45 of the game going 0-6 with 4 missed 3 pointers in that time frame.

Richmond lost to VCU in the final minute. Probably punches their ticket to the NIT.

This is an interesting comment.

Instead of W&M losing to VCU in the final minute, it's Richmond losing to VCU in the final minute. Instead of VCU sucking the air out of W&M's space, VCU is now sucking the air out of Richmond's space.

Don't get me wrong ... I liked VCU in the CAA because it was better for the conference, even if it was not the best deal for W&M.

Makes one wonder if Richmond got the short end of the stick when VCU bolted the CAA for the A-10. It's going to get frustrating for the Spiders to constantly have the Rams blocking their way forward.

RE: NIT
True, but Richmond swept VCU in the regular season. Game one was actually in the Siegel Center against a fairly healthy VCU squad (Weber was injured late in the game). Game two was easily won by the Spiders, from what I remember.

I think Richmond will remain competitive with VCU going forward. As others have noted, Havoc only works when you have specific athletes to run it. Also, as more and more teams figure it out, VCU will become more and more vunerable.

By the way, some post game analysts have said this could be the end of Richmond's season. I hope not. Not only would I mind another crack at them in the NIT, but I think they have enough quality wins to warrant it. It'll be an interesting Sunday.

RE: NIT
Richmond has to make the NIT. They finished with an RPI of 56 (after today's game), won 2 of 3 from VCU including the one where Weber was there until nearly the end, beat Davidson once and were 8-10 against the RPI top 100 (and 4-6 against RPI top 50). Can't see them not making it unless ton more upsets to #1 seeds finish out the conference championships.

Richmond is in, more likely than not. Hopefully they're on your side of the bracket so we don't have to face them.

RE: NIT
As we enter NIT a question should be raised about what Tony should do with Sheldon.
Sean's performance has tailspinned terribly the last quarter of the season and his contributions on the floor have almost disappeared.

His rebounding, point contribution, blocked shots have disappeared.

In the past five games he has a stunning 0 blocked shots, a total of 10 points (and taken just 3 shots meaning a disappearance of the many pick & roll points earlier in the season), just 16 rebounds (2 offensive) and a poor 5 for 11 from the foul line (meaning he shouldn't be on the court in crunch time).

And he has been pummeled by opposition centers who have scored and rebounded greatly when he's on the court.

Is he hurt, is there some other problem that has caused this backwards slide? What does this portend for next season? His active and contributing game from the first half of the season are a memory right now. Is his ankle still limiting him?

Perhaps we should see more of Whitman, perhaps a chance to light a fire under Whitman who
has moves around the basket and greater athleticism. And, as we've occasionally seen,
slide Omar into the pivot more often where he's shown ability to score with a hook shot and speed moves to the basket.

Am I totally wrong or do others see the same things?

RE: NIT
I have no idea whether attendance plays into this, but could our attendance numbers give us a better shot at getting that kind of opponent? Are there other likely top NIT seeds that would run into the same problem as Illinois? I'm assuming our attendance has been better than other likely 7 and 8 seeds.

I agree with TITB on this - it is exasperating how many of our posters pay no attention to the stated subject matter of the Thread being posted to.

If true (and it does seem a fact that Illinois cannot host - and the seedings do make sense) this would be like winning the NIT lottery for the Tribe. If the game became one of the four televised at prime time on ESPN - well, incredible.

Will be fun to see what happens tomorrow night at 8:30. I am going to hold my expectations in check - a road game against a BCS team would be nice enough.

I would LOVE for this to happen. Another chance to #PackTheKap

I have been in Williamsburg since Thursday wedding planning with our daughter. I am amazed at all of the Tribe basketball talk from the occasional fan or people in no way associated with the college. There is a serious vibe here. A home NIT game would certainly add to the fervor.

Watching all of these conference champion teams losing in their tournaments makes me sadder that W&M didn't beat Northeastern. Good chance W&M could have been a 13 seed in the tourney the way 1 seeds are losing in their conference tourneys

As of this morning, Bracketmatrix has Northeastern as the top 14 seed (roughly where we would have been) so a 13 seed could have been a possibility.

I sincerely hope we get a home game because I don't think Marcus's last game at Kaplan should be such an ugly loss. Also it would allow us to hopefully have a jersey retirement ceremony for him.
