NIT
So - moving on now, W&M is as of today one of four auto qualifiers. The others are Bucknell, Murray State, Iona and Charleston Southern. Appears most likely we will be a 7 or 8 seed.

Looking at likely match-ups (they do have an NIT bracketology), teams projected in the 1 or 2 seed positions are Stanford, Temple, Tulsa, Illinois, Minnesota, UConn, UCLA and ODU.

The tourney kicks off a week from today. The match-ups will be announced Sunday night.

RE: NIT
The NIT likes to place teams geographically near each other. If those seeds are accurate, it's looking like an ODU rematch.

We're playing at a higher level than when we faced ODU earlier this season. I think we can win a rematch with either of those teams.

RE: NIT
Richmond is currently playing their best basketball of the season and are better now than when we played them earlier in the season. The thing is so are we. I think we could still take them, and I don't believe Thornton would need another 37 points to do so.

RE: NIT
It would be awesome to host a game for once instead of being sent off to one of the power conferences schools who got a home game just because they are in a power conference. The NIT has gone with scheduling games regionally as previously posted but not always have done first round rematches.
Hopefully our Athletic Administration will start trying to lobby a home game today. With the crowds The Tribe drew this year should be a good starting point especially the 5k on Senior Day. ODU and UR will have an upper hand if for no other reason than the population in their areas and basketball history.

Sad as last night was there is still an avenue to make some more history for this fine team.

Almost no chance we host a game. We would need a 4 seed which means 16 teams with a lower RPI. The only teams that will get into the NIT with a lower RPI than us are regular season champs that don't make the conference tourney. Even if every mid major regular season champ missed out on the dance, I don't think there are 16 mid major conferences with a regular season champion who has a lower RPI than us. And sadly we don't carry the clout of UNC where we can demand a home game...

I am not certain, but I think there is more to hosting a game then where you are seeded, the AD has already expressed interest in hosting but the NIT is vague in that (and just about every other) regard.

I think if WM tells the NIT they can guarantee "x-amount" in attendance and dollars, you would find the Tribe with a 4 seed and hosting, there doesn't seem to be any sort of criteria for their seeding.

That would be great, and would be a neat thing for Marcus and Tom. Hopefully they can get good turnout for a midweek game.

RE: NIT
Will they do rematches in the first round? If not, that would cancel out ODU or Richmond as potential 1st round opponents.

Yeah, the NIT does not just go based off of skill. There was a year where Drexel was in the first 4 out, but were like a 4 or 5 seed in the NIT

RE: NIT
I just looked at the 2014 brackets and last years NIT the higher seeds hosted games unless there was a conflict with the higher seeds arena.

RE: NIT
I still get a little ticked when I think of having to travel to UNC in 2010 for our NIT game. I believe we had a better rpi and more quality out of conference wins. They gave UNC the 4 seed and us the 5 just so UNC wouldn't have to be shamed in traveling to Williamsburg to play. That, and of course, the $$$ implications.

This should give us an idea on The Tribe's chances of hosting a game which does not look very good.

RE: NIT
The NIT has changed its structure over the years. The first four out are now guaranteed #1 seeds in the NIT. There is also a set bracket now with seeds 1-8, with 1-4 getting home games unless there is a conflict (like happened to Kentucky against Robert Morris a few years ago if I recall) We will be an eight seed for sure. Hopefully Richmond is one of the first four out so we can possibly have a rematch with them at the Robins Center and beat the tics ass like we should have earlier this year. ODU might be a first four out team as well. They also will have a 30 second shot clock and a four foot restricted area this year as experiments for the NCAA season next year.

Don't be so sure.

There are lots of one-bid leagues out there with regular season champs with much lower RPI than W&M. At least 2 already lost in their tourneys.

Charleston Southern (#165) and Bucknell (#140) are much lower than you guys and they're going to the NIT. Schools like Albany, Montana, NC Central, St. Francis are below you as well and if they don't win, they'll be NIT bound with a resume much worse than yours.

So, I wouldn't say it's a definite yet.

RE: NIT
The home court is determined by seeding but I'm fairly certain the NIT considers potential attendance when setting those seeds. So maybe we could be a 4 seed if we can get a large crowd? One certainly hopes
