Our brand in revenue sports isn't as good as it should be.
Hence, we don't do as well as we should in-state. We see it in FB, and M&WBB. [Our brand in many Olympic sports is very good, e.g., T&F where we recruit internationally very well.]
Then we get kids on campus and they are sold, esp. in hoops, with a very nice arena, up-to-date with great amenities (e.g., practice courts, weights, treatment, (very) beautiful scoreboard, beautiful coaches' offices on site, atrium, parking, etc. etc.). [I'm mostly talking Convo here.]
In football, we are still running third in-state for G5 caliber athletes who wish to stay within state. We struggle head-to-head with WMU and CMU.
I just hope folks don't confuse what a coach MUST do vs. what he'd LIKE to do. Very different. I bet that CC would like to lock up a dozen good MI h.s. kids by 9/1 if he could (he can't), so he goes back to states where he's had success or where his assistant coaches have had recruiting success.
