RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
Not sure how we are out if we lose today. We are ahead of both Towson and Delaware and they play a three game series against one another next weekend. Both have 8 wins. If Delaware beats Elon today then I'm getting nervous, but otherwise I think we have a decent chance of getting in with 10 wins as long as Towson can beat Delaware twice. Winning today really puts the pressure on Delaware and eliminates Towson from the playoffs.

RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
Today's game almost over before we batted as NU scored four in first and leads, 8-1, in sixth inning.
Seems a cinch we'll lose two of three.

Perhaps what they meant all week was we needed two of three games to control our own destiny and cinch CAA Playoff slot. Now we're at the mercy of other teams.

Not having Gould and Hissey, both out with injuries, really hurts hitting...and after two great pitched games by our two best hurlers Friday and yesterday we figured to hurt today...and we are.

Is Fernandez also hurt? If not, I am curious why Aker would start when he has consistently gotten shelled in his starts the entire year.

I may be wrong, but I think Towson beating Delaware 2 of 3 is what we DON'T want. I think that would create a 3 way tie with us as the odd team out.

Am I the only one whose heart sinks when I hear that a Tribe team "controls its own destiny"?

Fernandez has had arm problems recently.

If we don't make CAA Tourney we deserve to be out...team had some decent streaks but fielding and pitching were pretty poor all season.

Ironically, the great games Ingham and Brown pitched Friday and Saturday were their best of the season
and probably would get us a win or two in the Tourney.

RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
Okay so I'm trying to work out our status for the CAA tournament. We sit at 10 wins, and the two we are vying with are Towson and Delaware. They play each other this weekend, and the only way we end up in a three-way tie is if Towson wins the series 2-1. That would put all three of us at 10-14. I can't seem to find anywhere that clearly states what the tiebreaker is for a three-way tie, but my guess is it is record against the teams that are all tied (that was the case for basketball). That would have Delaware at 4-2, Towson at 3-3, and us at 2-4. Pretty sure that leaves us on the outside looking in. So our hope is for anything BUT a Towson 2-1 series win. Given Delaware is a (marginally) better team, and it's being played at Delaware, I'm hoping the Hens can take the first two and then Saturday is irrelevant. Someone please correct me if I've messed something up on how we sit with this.

I reached the same conclusion based on the same (lack of) information.

For my next trick, I will start hitting keys at random to see if "Hamlet" results:

ACT I

SCENE I. Elsinore. A platform before the castle.

FRANCISCO at his post. Enter to him BERNARDO

BERNARDO
Who's there?

FRANCISCO
Nay, answer me: stand, and unfold yourself.

BERNARD*&LDL:dima;ld8pw[e;

Shoot, for a minute there I thought I was on a roll.

Tribe completes regular season (still have no idea if they can still qualify for CAA Playoffs) with three games at George Washington (double header Thursday, single game Friday).

GW was a great opponent for many years when we were in the old Southern Conference. Just too bad we don't play them in basketball...good game here in Williamsburg and a fine game for all our alums in DC.

I'm with you except there's so little to follow for a few weeks... A webcam of the stadium construction would be great, or maybe it wouldn't because I'd be watching grass grow.

Delaware takes the first game. Just need them to win one of two and we're in.

RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
Jason Inghram won his 25th game at W&M, setting a new record for Tribe baseball. In his last two games
Jason pitched 16 innings, allowed just 6 hits, walked zero and struck out 18!

Congrats to Jason for a great, record-setting career at William & Mary. The classy lefthander always gave 110% every time he was on the mound.

Tribe still has, as I understand, a slim chance for the CAA Tourney so, with some luck, perhaps we'll see the red hot Inghram again on the mound for W&M.

By the way, the doubleheader win at GW yesterday is rather stunning--GW has one of the better teams in the A-10 (now 29-20 for the season) and to sweep them at their place yesterday was something.

One more game there today.

If Delaware wins 1 of the next 2 games against Towson (Delaware won yesterday), we are in the CAA tourney so not slim chance. Just don't control our own destiny.

As to GW, they have an RPI worse than us. The A-10 is just not very good.

So does this mean that is Towson wins today and Delaware tomorrow we are in the CAA Tourney? But that if Towson wins both today and tomorrow we're out of it? Does anyone know for certainty?

RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
If they use the logical tie breaker of head to head among tied teams, that is correct (since that is what is used for basketball, and UD posted that they have secured a berth which is consistent with that math, I think it's safe to assume that is the method used). As long as Delaware takes one more game, we're in.

RE: Tribe Baseball 2015
It sure looks that way. On the CAA website, they already have Delaware filled in as the No. 5 seed. (And all the other seeds are filled in except No. 6).

If No. 6 is still undecided, then there has to be a way it can be either us or Towson. If Towson loses again, we'll finish with a better conference record, so it has to be us. That has to mean that if Towson wins twice, they beat us out in a 3-way tiebreaker. (Delaware obviously beats us both since they're already in at No. 5).

This has to mean that the baseball tiebreaker works the same as in basketball -- best record in games against other teams involved in the tie. In a 3-way tie, Delaware would be 4-2, Towson 3-3, and us 2-4.

Towson is still up 6-1 in the eighth inning in game 2, by the way.
