RE: NCAA Men's BBall Poll (AP)
Florida wins 106-71. Their next game will be @ Oklahoma on Saturday.

USC and # 7 UCLA tipped off moments ago. UCLA leads 13-8 at the first media timeout. We want UCLA to win this one.

EDIT: USC leads 50-38 at halftime. Not good.

Yeah, that one hurts. USC wins 84-76.

Yep. They'll undoubtedly pass us in the pecking order for votes in both polls, especially since this was USC's only game of the week, thus preventing a potential "let down game" until the after the next poll.

Doesn't help us at all, but it's been a crazy week in the top 10. This week, AP teams ranked 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 14 and 16 have lost. Teams ranked 5, 11, 12, 15, 20, 22, 23, and 25 each won, and the 3rd, 9th, 7th, 10th, and 21st ranked teams play tonight. Either Xavier (24) or Cinncy (19) will lose tonight.

Assuming with USC's win over UCLA, they jump us as well.

RE: NCAA Men's BBall Poll (AP)
# 21 St. Mary's, # 22 Xavier, Northwestern and Indiana will all be in action tonight. We need some upsets along with a win over JMU, though Florida's game @ Oklahoma on Saturday will likely be the biggest of the remaining schedule for the 21-30 range teams this week.

# 21 St. Mary's (143 poll points): vs. San Francisco (Thu, 11 PM EST); @ Santa Clara (Sat, 11 PM)

# 22 Xavier (138): @ Cincinnati (Thu, 7 PM); @ St. John's (Sun, 6 PM)

# 23 Maryland (106): vs. Rutgers (W); @ Minnesota (Sat, 2:15 PM)

# 24 South Carolina (100): vs. Auburn (W); @ Missouri (Sat, 8:30 PM)

# 25 Florida (37): @ LSU (W); @ Oklahoma (Sat, 2 PM)

NR Northwestern (21): vs. Nebraska (Thu, 8 PM); vs. Indiana (Sun, 6:30 PM)

NR Kansas St. (17): @ Iowa St. (L); @ Tennessee (Sat, 2 PM)

NR Indiana (16): @ Michigan (Thu, 9 PM); @ Northwestern (Sun, 6:30 PM)

NR USC (16): vs. # 7 UCLA (W)

NR SMU (16): @ UCF (W)

There's definitely a lot of volatility, but of course we need that to happen at the bottom of the poll. The Top 25 teams just shifting around, with some other NR teams moving up, does nothing good for us.

In the Coaches Poll, Xavier is 22 and Cincinnati is NR, so I'm not sure who I want to win that one. Regardless of the result we'd need at least one of those teams to lose their 2nd game of the week, preferably both.

Hasn't played out for us this week, but if we can get through these next two, we've got two at home the following week. Plus, another win over Charleston would help RPI. Looking ahead at the schedule, this week is important.

Oh for sure, every game for us is important. Lose just 1 and our chances at a Top 25 ranking are shot. I'm just disappointed that the results of teams around us in the voting aren't going our way.

You only have influence on what you control, the rest isn't worth worrying about.

Of course this is true, but we're on the verge of accomplishing something never done before in UNCW bball history. It adds excitement to an otherwise uninteresting match up against JMU.

Plus, we're fans. All of it is out of our control.

RE: NCAA Men's BBall Poll (AP)
Right but getting disappointed or upset that other teams in other conferences around you keep winning seems...well pointless

I understand you want to get ranked, who wouldn't, but getting ranked really is not something anyone has much say in or control of, unless your team keeps winning. They keep winning and I guarantee they will get in, whether in 1 week or 4 weeks down the road. College hoops has enough fluctuation that teams will lose and drop out, eventually. The cards will fall how they fall. Worrying about it makes it seem like you guys are expecting a let down loss in the near future.

RE: NCAA Men's BBall Poll (AP)
I don't expect the team to finish the season with 2 losses, and any loss in the CAA will ruin our chances of getting ranked. A loss at JMU may be a let down loss, but I would't consider a road loss to W&M a let down. We come back and play the second-best team in the conference at home. I expect us to hold home court, but that wouldn't be a let down either. Then, we have a stretch where we're on the road for three straight in February, including at Northeastern, and we finish the season against NE at home.

Saying "the cards will fall how they fall" is true, but it's way too rational for fans (fanatics). So, I would say it's an awareness that it's a race between similarly ranked teams that can absorb a P5 conference loss, and the understanding that our only hope is to remain unbeaten in conference.

It's a race against time, Dan. We're bound to have a letdown game at some point. But if we keep winning but still don't get ranked, that'll suck. Then when we DO lose, we lose our chance.

We've never been ranked before in school history, so while it's true that we have no control over the results, we're still allowed to be pissed about them, and pissed at the voters too for that matter.

Be pissed at the egg laid against Clemson. Without that, even a decent showing there we are prob ranked.

Be pissed at Clemson going 1-6 in conference. Losing to them, and them in turn sucking in-conference hurts. It's the combination that hurts our reputation.

But, I'm not upset about anything. We're 19-2.

agree, While it would be great to be ranked, it doesn't matter. Keep winning games.

The Xavier-Cincinnati game will be on ESPN2 at 7. Might put that on in the background on mute while watching our game.

RE: NCAA Men's BBall Poll (AP)
We may have a let down, but not a collapse. We have gone 23-2 against CAA opponents in our last 25 CAA games. If you measure that out for this year, we're good for one more loss between the regular season and tournament. That would put us at 29-3 for the year. Pretty good.

I still think NU will be our biggest challenge.
