I have been hearing for some time
That Duke will make a run at Tony Bennett when Coach K hangs it
up.

Clemson plays a quality team every game in the ACC too, but at some point you have to win ball games. Duke's best ACC victory is against Miami and they have ZERO road wins this SEASON. Their ranking has nothing to do with their SOS and everything to do with their name.

Discussion regarding Duke's ranking seems relevant on the AP top 25 thread, and has direct implications to our own ranking.

If you guys' can manage to keep any votes in either the AP or coaches, that would be promising for later this season. My gut says the severity of the loss will evaporate all votes in both polls later today

That's pretty much inevitable. We had our chance, and unfortunately now it's gone.

While that loss definitely hurt, we are still in the running. It depends on how we handle the loss and the committee. It weighs heavy on just how well they really like us. And as far as a bad loss goes. Jmu would be a bad loss. W & M is 9-0 at home.

yup. Personally i think i close loss there would not have hurt us badly. However, we were never in the game.

Any loss other than at COC is a bad loss and the margin is a problem-IMO. Being ranked would have been a nice perk for UNCW but at the end of the day you want to play in the NCAA tournament. Win the CAA tournament is the deal.

It's a disappointing loss for sure, but I don't consider it a bad loss despite their RPI. They're a well-coached team, on the road, with extra motivation to play the conference's best team. We played poorly as well, but give them all of the credit. My opinion, anything short of an undefeated regular season was going to cost us an at-large bid, so even a loss to CoC was going to hurt.

The top 25 ranking would've garnered us a lot more regional attention, and perhaps unprecedented national attention. It was an opportunity missed, but not a huge disappointment. Win a minimum of 5 more games, take the CAA a tournament and see if we can make noise in March.

I'm looking forward to a rowdy crowd on Thursday.

No votes in the AP. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...asontype/2

No surprise there.

Despite no votes in the AP, you only dropped from 21 to 8 in the coaches poll, so that is a hint of optimism of being able to still reach the top 25. Seems like coaches were more forgiving to a single road loss

Coaches understand the game better than anyone, that's for sure. Which is why it's so stupid that only 1/10 Selection Committee members are former coaches. AD's don't know sh*t.

Yeah. AD's understand the money (or they're supposed to). That tournament isn't important in terms of actually producing a national champion. It's important because of the revenue it creates. Guarantee they don't want the coaches making things "more exciting" if that excitement has the potential to hurt the wallets of the P5/6. It's always risk vs reward with money as the constant, regardless of how all the talking heads spin it.

Most of us are aware of this. Just like we all knew the adding a few more teams was not a method to help the smaller conferences but to help those extra middling power teams. That along with realignment just about killed mid majors chances

The NCAA tournament is something along the lines of 95% of the NCAA's budget. Its not just their golden goose, its their golden chicken, cow, tractor and farmhouse. Without the money from this tournament, the NCAA as we know it could not exist.

Looking at the coaches' poll, it does not look like we would have gotten ranked even if we would have won. Northwestern, the team tied with us, is still on the outside looking in.

Bump:

Yesterday's "Bracketology" and I use the term loosely has us a 12 in the Midwest region matched up against 5 seed Wisconsin, and if we win would face the winner of Duke/Princeton.

Wisc has been struggling. I watched some of their game Vs. OSU and they seemed to be going through the motions.
