ULM @ App State, Game Week Thread
Looks like a good matchup of 2-2 SunBelt teams at The Rock. ULM has played a tough OOC schedule and has a win over ACC Wake and a very close loss (which should have been a win) over Texas A&M last weekend. ULM brings a stout defense to match up against an improving App offense and run game. App played well against Troy and GaSt the last 2 weeks but ULM is undoubtedly a step up in competition. It will be interesting to see if App has improved to ULM's level or if there will be a repeat of the USA game a few weeks ago. My guess is that this will be a slobber knocker with good defense and not a lot of scoring. I just hope it doesn't come down to a special teams play such as a kickoff return or field goal as App has been rather sorry in most aspects of special teams. Weather shouldn't be a factor this Saturday.04-cheers

agree with what your saying, what really scares me are the 2 things that probably will play a huge role in deciding this game, red zone efficiency, and field goal kicking, both of which we are at the bottom of the SBC. ULM defense might be the best in the conference, but our defense isn't far behind, and their offense, atleast statistically, is really poor. First one to 20 wins.

Looks like you guys might catch a break. Forecast as of today for Saturday is calling for mostly sunny skies, a balmy high of 47, 0% chance of rain and only a slight 8 MPH wind.

Don't know if the cold will effect ULM, but with kickoff at 3:30 the high temp really won't matter. It will be much colder than 47 by halftime.

Thanks to our recent improvement, I have cautious optimism going into this game. IMO, we will need a clean game to beat ULM.

Be sure to check Yosef's Cabin for the "real" Boone forecast from WXAPPS as the week goes on. Lots of layers, gloves, hats, and those chemical hand warmers are good ideas. If you're headed to Boone, travel safely. See you at The Rock!

I actually find it more of a pain in the butt to prepare for weather like this coming weekend that what we got last weekend. Last game was a no-brainer: heavy-duty all the way. For this weekend, I'll have to bring all sorts of stuff to change in and out of as the day goes on. I can be roasting on that East side in the first quarter and have to go full on Nanook of the North by the 4th.

Uhh...Unless your defense has improved tremendously, it is not near the caliber of ULM.

You guys have the better offense though.

RE: ULM @ App State, Game Week Thread
Our Oline has been restructured for about the last 3 weeks (no coincidence that we have played our best during this stretch) and the boys are growing up right in front of us. Marcus Cox is a stout back with some wheels and Taylor Lamb is making good decisions and protecting the ball a lot better now.
On D, we seem to have found our stride and are putting lots more pressure on the run game and pass game. Eric Boggs has been a beast in the middle and taken some of the pressure off of John Law.
I see this being a tight game through 3 quarters with App pulling away in the last 8 minutes or so and winning by 10.

RE: ULM @ App State, Game Week Thread
Uhh wouldn't you think a defense that starts four freshman would have improved during the year?

Are they the level of ULM, doubtful, but they are much better than three weeks ago.

The key to this game will be ULM's rush defense vs. App's rush offense. If App can't run and is forced to throw it will likely lead to turnovers. ULM will likely dominate special teams play which is why I give them the edge.

run the football. play lights out on D. Taylor Lamb makes plays when needed. This should be a win if we remain in the form we've been in. I don't get why people think I'm crazy for saying App should be the favorite in this one. What has ULM done to make us believe they're a good team?

The fact that they play stout defense means they are likely to be in most games they play. While we have had some success the last several games, we are playing a defense that is far superior than what we faced in those games. This game more than the previous two, will tell us how much we have improved. I see the margin of victory in this game of 7 points or less, regardless of who that victor is.

ULM hasn't beaten anyone by more than 7 all year, and are riding a 4 game losing streak FYI. All indications point to this one being a very close game.
