RE: Other Games of Interest
A narrow victory over a 1-9 team and no Offense [other than MAS] is not going to get us ANY votes, period.

It won't lose us any either.

I agree with the general idea here. If we win out, I think we have a solid chance of making the playoffs. Certainly a Richmond loss next week would go a long way to help us though.

What this means is we need to win out and UR needs to beat JMU next weekend to make (most likely) a 3 team tie for 3rd in the CAA. If that happens, we'll have beaten UR in the head-to-head but UR will have beaten Nova & JMU. We'd most likely be out with an 8-4 (5-3) record because UR beat the better teams and JMU beat us.

All of this assuming JMU beats Elon.

We'd be in the driver's seat if that lil JMU debacle never happened.

Actually, when all is said and done, our win over Delaware might be a tilting positive as well. They are 6-4 right now and beat JMU.

Also, for all the hand wringing over Elon, the longer a team like this keeps pushing for their first conference win, the more dangerous they become. While I never felt really in trouble yesterday on the final result, I did see a good coach and group of competitive players who never gave up. I'm glad they are behind us. They will win their first against either Maine or JMU.

They will not beat JMU. We ran almost at will (short of plays where everyone in the house new MAS was getting the ball) against them. Lee will have a field day with them.

I would not say I never was worried yesterday.

You are probably right but anyone who is just looking at Elon's record rather than their opponents is short grading them in my book. Their OOC included Duke (possible ACC champs), Coastal Carolina (ranked #2 in FCS, NC A&T (likely MEAC champs) and Charlotte (who they beat). The only CAA team that really pasted them was UNH (sound familiar?).

Also, didn't say I wasn't anxious at times watching yesterday, just never felt that in the end we weren't going to come out with a win.

It could actually be a 4 way tie if Stony Brook wins out. They play Rhody and Albany so it's entirely possible they finish 5-3 in conference. In that scenario we finish above Richmond on record among tied teams because of our win at Stony Brook. Though I don't know how much the selection committee looks at conference tiebreakers.

And I know it's unlikely but if Delaware manages to beat either UNH or Villanova over the next two weeks it would be a 5 way tie for 3rd. If that happens we would finish above JMU as well and be in 3rd place in the conference.

Stony Brook already has 6 losses and that's what matters. Not the conference record for at-large purposes

That's the beauty of our win over them. We're in no danger of losing an at large spot to them but their winning out will vault us up the conference standings.

VP has TWO CAA football articles today??!! These seem auto-generated from the AP. I wonder if they have cut their sports staff to the point that AP articles are filling a good chunk of their pages now. Proximity to Wburg and Richmond maybe puts these higher on the list of stories to choose from??

RE: Other Games of Interest
I know we've laid out a bunch of elaborate scenarios, but I still feel like there are one or two bids to share between JMU, UR, and us.

If we win out and JMU beats UR, I think UR is out of the picture. Not only is their record 7-5 at that point, but they will have ended the season losing three straight which the committee has shown is a problem before.

Is our resume good enough at that point? I don't know. But I think this is the scenario we need to root for, as much as I hate rooting for JMU. If somehow JMU could choke against Elon though, that would be fantastic.

If Vad Lee goes down, JMU is toast. He is their offense.

I think we can be the 4th team if JMU is the 3rd. But we need some other help. Liberty going 7-5 would help. Some of the many MFVC going 7-5 and some of the Big Sky teams. Some of that is possible. We need to win this weekend and hope JMU wins. Then, we can see how much help we got. We definitely will know by next Saturday night if we still have something to play for.

Agreed it is essentially survive and advance. The team cannot worry about anyone but Towson this week and Richmond next week. If we win out, it is shaping up to be like 2008 when we were among the last teams left out. I think we were among the last 3-4 left out last year. Will be a fun CAA weekend since we kick off almost as the JMU/Spiders game is finishing. If we are fortunate enough to go 8-4 and we miss, it will be hard to complain. We lost 2 very winnable games(but I guess we did win one we should/could have lost as well). It will be nice to have the opportunity to go 2-0 against teams we lost to at the end of last season.

Hampton giving BCU a good game on ESPNU. MEAC looking for an at large team or two, but a loss to a low ranked Hampton would hurt BCU. May help us just a little since we beat them at their place.

Hampton continuing to stretch the lead...If they hold on, it will put SC State in driver's seat for their automatic berth and should really lower any MEAC at-large chance.

Hampton finishes the win. BCU has a D2 win so they're best finish is 8 D1 wins. Looks like another at large open there.

I am so sick and tired of everyone being negative on here..."We are going to be left out like 2008" (not just this guy either).

Enjoy the moment...and if WM wins its last 2, and does not make the playoffs, I will punch myself right in the Jimmy. (or Jimmye)

Win out and you are in.

I enjoyed the game last night. The FR QB for Hampton has gotten better.
