RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Scott gets an offer from Navy. Seems to be a lot of offers being handed out lately. Whyte's offer from WM was his fourth this week. When will we see some decisions being made by these players and the potential transfers? Seems early but Marquis Godwin committed to Richmond back in January.

RE: 2017 Men's Basketball Recruiting
The recent staff trend has been to offer a select few in the position(s) being targeted for the class, hoping one will grab the ring before losing out to the others, or before exploding during the July AAU period...When we appear to be out of the running with anyone offered, there is usually another late blooming, quality choice already identified to fill the offer slot. Credit to the integrity of the staff that once offered they stay committed to those select few as opposed to randomly offering many. The formula has been working very well. We appear to be continuing to up the level of talent we are looking at....Would be surprised if any of current offers committed anywhere until after the July period, but the staff would know before then if still a shot or time to insert another possible fit...

I have no hard facts, but mid majors appear to be wading more aggressively into major recruit territory this year. Maybe the chance at immediate playing time, and the more frequent transfer of mid majors to P5 schools later on, is opening the door for getting a real look from a higher talent pool. May make it harder for majors to sit and wait out the top players before offering their back-up choices....

Are you also coming around to the point of view that you'd rather have winning seasons in CAA Football than struggle in CUSA or some other lower-level FBS conference?

No, I'd take an American or MAC invite in a heartbeat.

PS we could take the place of Eastern Michigan:

Another 6'7" wing who plays for same AAU team as Burchfield and Seacat. Reminds me of Canyon Barry.

2017 6'7" G/W (KY) Pedro Bradshaw has interest from Murray St, Mizz State, William & Mary, Belmont, Furman, St Louis, Samford. @PedroBshaw32

I believe Hunter Tyson is Class of 2018. Would he be our first 2018 player to have documented interest from WM? He got his first offer today, from App State.

Verbal Commits shows Kansas State with 41 outstanding offers for 4 slots. Baker should feel offended if he DIDN'T get an offer.

I know nothing about the inside game of hoops recruiting. Is there concern that shooting high on recruits could lead us to be out in the cold when most/all of them end up in more prestigious programs? What the dynamic at play here? Is there such a thing as a "safety" offer? It feels like a high wire act sometimes.

It is very early in the 2017 recruiting process. I believe that the coaches at this point put out offers to guys that they view as academically capable HM prospects that they feel are overlooked or underrecruited. Does it often work out? Probably not. But occasionally you can get a potentially program changing recruit. The coaches, I'm sure, have a plan of various tier guys that they may offer.

Bottom line is that these coaches have proven very good at identifying talent that can qualify academically, thrive athletically, and seem content at W&M (no recent transfers). Sure, there are guys I'd like to see us land, but it seems to all work out. To be honest, I wasn't all that excited about Pierce when he committed. Now he looks like a steal of a recruit & potential future all conference player.
