What the hell is going on? Three games into the season and the stadium stinks (in my opinion most of you are wrong on that count), the coach doesn't know what he is doing (nothing like giving him some time), Eastern belongs in FCS (but we really don't know where), please, will some of you take a deep breath and relax.
Everyone knew this was not going to be a break out season, everyone in one fashion or another was aware that this was going to be a less than successful season, record wise. Why all of these comments that the sky is falling?
Guess what? We will be losing again this coming week end. I can't wait for all the doom and gloom to continue this week. Personally, I think Eastern can win some games in our conference schedule, but if we don't, I am still going to give Coach Creighton and his staff more time to turn this around. We gave English five years.
This.

Agreed.
BTW, all of the stadium stuff isn't meant, at least by me, as 'gloom and doom'.
To me it is excitement. The more renovation to Rynearson the better.
I love to see things built or renovated.
(BTW, there are more drawings of the Wings new arena in Detroit. That is exciting).

The Wings arena received a massive amount of corporate welfare at the taxpayer's expense. Outside of alum and individual contributions where is the money coming from for the proposed EMU renovations?

Good question.
There are three possible sources:
1). EMU can borrow monies commercially using our receivables from ESPN contract as collateral. We borrowed I believe 1M+ for FieldTurf in 2005(?) using our visiting game guarantee money as collateral. I could see us borrowing say 15M over 15 years. BTW, this is NEW money (funds) which was not available last year, so it isn't 'mortgaging our future'. Our receivables from ESPN + college football playoffs is about 1M > last fiscal year. The MAC schools hit pay dirt.
2). Can EMU get say 10 - 15M from alums and donors? That seems a tall mountain to climb with a losing football team.
3). Commercial sponsorship (naming) for a new stadium? Is there a Quicken Loans or some other corporation which likes its name on buildings willing to pony up say 20M over 30 years?????
So I have 'two scenarios':
1). #1 and #2 above for a total of 25-30M which buys lights, scoreboard, new (limited) FB building with maybe suite seating, press box, and removal of track. Not enough to pay for new 8K east side seats, I'm afraid.
2). #3 - 50M for a new stadium if corporate sponsorship is found.

plus 10-15 million to replace the track and field facilities this plan will eliminate
