Nice, knowledgeable fans too.
We could follow that model easily if...
-Our school was more than 160 miles away from the two major colleges in the state...like ODU is (Virginia/Va Tech).
-Our school was in a city with 250,000 people and had no other local FBS competition for college football...like ODU is.
Sadly, we don't have either of those luxuries. In fact, quite the opposite. We share a smaller metro area with one of the most popular football programs in the entire nation. Following their model in building a football program isn't congruent with our situation.
I agree with some of your points here but then I think of the success Northern Illinois University has had. They're right in the thick of Big Ten Country and even have to compete against Notre Dame for fan support yet they seem to get it done. So, it just goes to show that it can be done if you put a good product on the field.

IL vs. MI (and Va.)
Last time I checked, there is no comparison between Illinois and Northwestern AND Michigan and Michigan State.
Sometimes takes NU 3 games to total 110K in attendance.
In Virginia, things are hard to understand. A good share of the population resides in Northern Virginia, yet UVa and Va Tech are a long ways off. (an analogy between Detroit area and E. Lansing isn't accurate as E. Lansing is a one hour drive from many Detroit 'burbs), yet the Norfolk area has over 1.5M pop and ODU is the only show (football) in town at the FBS level... (there are FCS schools, though).
Blacksburg, Va is 250 miles from No. Virginia and is very close to W. Virginia.
For comparisons, similar distances to South Bend, IN or W. Lafayette, IN (Purdue) from Detroit.
I have always been shocked that VaTech can sell out regularly. Lot of it is alums, young alums, who come back to party over the FB weekend. EDIT: The Roanoke area is around 300K so there are many locals who can attend games.
Charlottesville is 100+ miles from No Va. but they aren't a football power and don't draw very well.
The commonwealth's largest school is actually George Mason which does not have football.
As far as No Virginia is concerned, college football (it is pro football, Washington team which is huge) isn't big. Some support UVa, VaTech, Maryland (not much), and a LOT of other schools, e.g., UofM, PSU, etc. (even a few, maybe just one, supporting EMU).
So...you're saying we're in a hopeless situation? I agree, but one can dream!

Has anyone purchased the ODU subscription for the game? Wonder if we can share the login information so we can all watch? What happened to the subscription on EMU's page to watch athletics?

Steve,
What you're doing is coming up with excuses. People don't want to watch garbage football. Right now, EMU is playing garbage football. If EMU were the only game in town in a 300 mile radius Rynearson would still be well under capacity. People do not want to pay to watch a crappy football team when they can watch their pick of games from the comfort of their home. Heck, EMU can't even get a good alumnus or current student turnout (people do show up if they're given free tickets). If the same problem exists when and if EMU has put together some winning season I will say that you are correct in your assessment.

INT on the first drive. Not a bad start! Heinicke threw a terrible floater.

Nice jet sweep to David Gibson. Big gain.
Keep running it down their throat.

Roback overthrows a wide open Tyler Allen in the end zone. Damn.
Punting.

RE: GameWeek: ODU
Big plays haunting us again. Long TD run after the defense had been doing a decent job. Good god.

Huge run, untouched by our D. Looked identical to the first UF rushing TD.

Roback not throwing accurate to to start. Has missed 3 passes to open receivers.

Yep our guys are getting open. Roback has to be better.
Big series for our defense here. Don't want to be chasing 14 points this early.

7-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Not a fan of Creighton's decision to punt on 4th and 1 at midfield. Running is your strength, might as well take advantage of it.

Agreed, gotta be aggressive there. Roback 1-4 for 3 yards. Wouldn't mind seeing Bell come in here and there as a run threat.
