RE: VT Game Day
Just too much overall team speed for the Hokies.

We'll be fine on the FCS level.

Yeah we are getting tired. Oh No. McBride is hurt. Hope not too bad but he has been down form minutes with something on his left foot/leg and getting carried off.

VT Game Day
Tre was on the sideline icing his foot for awhile, don't see him there now. I guess a good sign he didn't go straight to the locker room?

VT Game Day
Tribe got beat by a team with better players. That said we found a qb and looked like they were on shape. Tech beat the spread

RE: VT Game Day
Plusses:

*Kicking...Carpenter had distance, accuracy and height on his fgs and kickoffs. Our new punter looks very good...gets both distance and hang time.

*Abdul Saboor ran well, showed speed and power and appears poised for some big games against lesser opponents than VPI. He looks faster than last season.

*Dedmon can play this year...and may have to if McBride out for a while. If it's a high ankle sprain he's out for weeks.

*defense played well in first half...very active and quick. But they ran out of gas in second half. Couple of stupid penalties really hurt.

minuses:

*poor, no terrible, pass blocking protection for Cluley, who took a beating and was running for his life most of the time. Withholding judgement on him since today no fair test.

*tight ends did nothing, never figured in the offense and were invisible all day

*offensive play calling very limited and sterile..of course, Va Tech defense didn't permit much.

Re: VT Game Day
A couple of observations from a casual football eye...

- I think Cluley looks like a solid young QB. Tough game to get your feet wet against a fast & talented tech D. He made some good throws and hopefully, with better line play in the future, he'll be even more comfortable back there.

- I think the defense is as advertised and will do well on the FCS level. We wore down in the 3rd, but I thought it was overall solid.

- The special teams kicking and coverage was impressive and will serve this team well all year.

- The mental errors and trouble getting plays in was disturbing but not unexpected in a 1st game in that atmosphere.

- Trying to follow along on Twitter, Tech fans rank up near the top with their annoying idiotic comments.

- I hope Tre is OK and Cluley isn't too beat up. Both will factor in greatly for, what I consider, a promising season.

Note that Tech was top 5 in Defensive yards last year and top 10 in Defensive points for FBS teams. Unless they lost a lot, that was a very good defense we were facing.

They lost 7 starters on defense, though at this point one can assume Bud Foster will slap together a good defense.

The sack/fumble on Cluley turned the game. Dunno if W&M would have won since it was early in the game but the offense never really threatened after that play. Defense held it together for about as long as they could and played well in the red zone before wearing out. Cluley didn't impress me a ton but as mentioned he was running for his life a lot so there's no way to really judge. Hopefully next week we see a little more. Also hope McBride's okay.

RE: VT Game Day
I'm proud of the guys and think they played a great game overall.

-VERY impressed with our goal line defense when we were fresh. Yes, we did give up the eventual td in the first half, but I think it took Tech 6 or 7 plays to crack it. Solid push by our defensive line.

-We had our fair share of breaks but lost on some heartbreakers as well. Overall discipline was good aside from a few boneheaded crucial plays. Can't afford any when playing this level.

-Turnover battle was even, although our two seemed to cost us so much more. I still question whether the ball hit our player's foot on the punt but oh well.

-Really hoping and praying the injuries aren't too severe. The passing game relies heavily on the few talents we have and I'm concerned especially heading into conference play.

-Kicking game is a huge advantage this year and will help us win games.

RE: VT Game Day
We had VT 3 and out at start of 3rd then the roughing penalty allowed VT to have a long drive that lead to a score. This kept our D on the field way too long and took away what may have been a momentum swing our away from The Tribe and wore us down.

RE: VT Game Day
Very proud of my guys. Fighters, all.

That first fumble really turned the tide. You could expect to come out of that drive down by one (10-9), but...

It is impossible to win when you convert one 3rd down out of 12. It is nearly impossible to win when you go 0'fer after three chances in the red zone. And 28 points off of turnovers...forget it.

Cluley's stats leave a lot to be desired but he simply had no time. What we can take from his performance is he stood in there and competed. Cluley will think HU's defense is running in quicksand next week compared to Tech. BTW, Hampton gave OD a run for their money today.

Game ball goes to Carpenter and Windmuller. Honestly, if they keep playing like this, we could win a game or two more than we would've with last year's kicking performance. I gotta feeling Carpenter's going to kick a few a game. Windmuller's 52 yard average is NFL caliber stuff.

Really glad to see Marcus Harvey all over the place making tackles (11) and he even forced a fumble.

I must have missed something, stats show TF Isaiah Stephens with two tackles and shows no participation for Dykes.

Tough game but some inexperienced guys received a lesson today and I'm absolutely certain they will only get better and perform at a high level against FCS opponents.

Not sure if they made a mistake, but the broadcasters mentioned Denzel Dykes. So, I assumed he played.
