2-0 now. Looks like Julian Green is going to come on to get some experience before this is over.
These guys are really...really good

Man...a Terrific save by their Keeper on a point blank look from Dempsey keeps us from going to Penalties.
Belgium knocks the US Out 2-1. All the group winners won in the 2nd round. Howard with 16 saves.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
Now we can go back to not caring about soccer for another four years ...
Seriously though, is Tim Howard the best goalkeeper in the world or what? If not for him, the US team would be lucky to qualify much less get out of the group. I said to a coworker the other day that Howard was slumming it playing for the National Team, and yesterday showed that. it seems sometimes in this tournament, you could see the frustration on his face, as he's chewing out his team for giving up so many shots, not just yesterday but in the previous games as well.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
The funny thing about yesterday's game is that a lot of Americans hated the game, and talked about how ugly of a game it was.
I've been reading through some British press junk looking for EPL Transfer news, and literally all people can talk about over there is the US/Belgium game. Several have called it the best game of the world cup by far, and several fans even went as far to say that England would dream of playing like the US did this World Cup. Not bad for a 1-1-2 tournament.
Talk is that several European Clubs are interested in Yedlin and Besler. I found this Opinion out Wals and why Cardiff City should sign them. I think Yedlin would be wise to go overseas for the right offer. Besler at 27 is a different story entirely, but he's running out of time to play on the big world stage. Probably has 1 World Cup left in him.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
yeah. It really was a great showing by us. We basically played 3 top 10 teams. granted, going 0-2-1 doesn't seem like a good outcome, but the portugal game was seconds from being a win, and both losses by 1 goal were still pretty impressive. And this is with a team that is still growing, and still improving with a lot of young players.
This year, England, Italy, and Spain were all eliminated in group play. Italy hasn't made it past group play the past 2 world cups, while the US has. This program is going in the right direction, and will continue to do so under JK. It would have been nice to win that game yesterday, but the US is quickly becoming very well respected throughout the world.

Yeldin is making like 60k a year at Seattle. Talk about a steal right now. 2018 should be a treat if the team keeps gelling.

He wont be playing for Seattle much longer I think. A good offer of 3-5 million and a European team can have him. Seattle needs the cash.

A lot of Sporting KC fans think (hope) that Besler will spurn other offers because he is from Overland Park (a suburb of Kansas City) and has just gotten married.
Personally if I were in his position, right now is the time to cash in. Go overseas for two or three years, make some real money, travel overseas before you are worrying about the kids and school, and then when you have nice a wad in the bank look to get a transfer back to KC.

250K or 300K is not bad but if real money comes ought to do it and as you said can go back to KC for some money in 2-3 years ....KC is really having a good time out there and becoming a very good spot for Soccer in the US....had pleasure of seeing Besler and Zusi play in May in KC and had never been to their new stadium great atmosphere and absolutely enjoyable.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
The rest of the World Cup will still resume tomorrow despite the fact the US is out. France/Germany and Brazil/Colombia are the two matchups.
Arkstfan will probably be distressed to know that Sporting KC is pretty much resigning themselves to losing Matt Besler. They've had at least 5 transfer offers from Europe to this point. Besler's agent says there is a chance he will re-sign with Sporting KC, but only if he plans on finishing his career there. Otherwise, he will move to England or Germany to play for a top flight team over there.

I hate to lose him but if I were newly married and there was a fat offer out there for overseas, I'd take it. If he goes it will be harder to keep Zusi, even though he won't get nearly as good offers.

One wrinkle on Besler. I think Sporting currently has two designated player spots open, so there is a chance he can get very rich and stay home.

Nothing more than speculation. Team President wouldn't say who called.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
Germany beat France 1-0
Brazil beat Colombia 2-1, but the story of the match was that the referee absolutely refused to show a yellow card despite several intentional hard fouls. After a series of take downs to their star player, a Colombian player retailiated by intentionally kneeing Neymar in the back, the resulting foul caused Neymar to fracture a vertebrate, ending his World Cup. They'll also be without their captain after a foolish goalkeeper interference call resulted in a yellow.
Brazil will play Germany in the first semifinal Tuesday afternoon.
Tomorrow's finish to the quarters will lead off with Belgium vs Argentina and Netherlands vs Costa Rica.
