RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
Hopefully the players are rested and have had a chance to physically and mentally recover from the group stage.

Bradley really needs to up his game and play to and beyond his potential. We need more creative play by the midfield and forward(s) to keep possession and provide goal scoring opportunities (kinda obvious, but the last game seemed very uninspired and no real attempt to score). Also, we need to finish or at least test the Belgium goalkeeper. We can't squander any chances because they will likely be few. The defense needs to play smart and Timmy needs to his usually wall in front of goal. Basically what every team should be doing in every game. Keep possession, score when given the chance, and play solid D.

I will say for USA we need to work the wings and take more chances with long range shots. Try to use our speed to get behind the Belgium defense on counter attacks. Move the ball quickly and don't allow them time to organize.

Yeah our back line has been iffy. Gotta clear the ball better, Timmy Howard can't be bombarded and the US win no matter how good he is.

Have to improve possession time, we have wanted to lull back into our old style of bunker in and then create a chance on a counter, that's not what we hired Jurgen for.

Argentina and Switzerland become the 5th straight game to end the first half scoreless.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
Argentina and Switzerland headed to Extra time scoreless. Switzerland was content to play tough defense all half and counter when they can.

I don't hear any complaints out of Belgium and the US if this goes to PK's.

and Messi does it again. Runs half way down the field, everybody crashes in on him, dishes it off to an oncoming player for the goal with a couple minutes left.

Messi is incredible. Swiss nearly came back. Had two wide open looks at goal late. Headed one off the post, and missed the rebound wide.

Argentina plays the Belgium/US winner in the quarterfinals Saturday.

When South Korea got home from the World Cup, they were pelted with Toffee's by waiting admirers. Which apparently is a Korean way of saying "You suck"

Altidore won't be starting, and Cameron will be starting over Beckerman and we are running a 4-3-3 formation. I like it. This means we should see a lot more attacking out of the guys today.

4-3-3? You just cant have a good National Team match any more without Klinsman running some surprising formation we haven't seen before at us.

4-3-3 is common... I personally like 4-2-2-2 when I play fifa. 4 attacking players :3

Oh, I know its common. Both Portugal and Germany ran it against us, and I run it on FIFA, but its not a formation we have lined up with yet during the warm up series or during group play, so its certainly surprising.

RE: OT: World Cup - Who you got?
6th straight game to go 0-0 at half. First time in World Cup History. For several stretches, we were thoroughly outclassed, yet our defense was good enough to keep us level. Losing Fabian Johnson to yet another hamstring strain has force DeAndre Yedlin to play gigantic minutes, and might change our approach somewhat 2nd half.

Still struggling with possession.

So we're clear, none of the 5 previous games to end the first half scoreless finished scoreless.

Extra time. Howard is on fire. Hopefully his play will be rewarded.

Wow...with a minute left Wondolowski had a free look on goal from 5 yards and he shanked it.

We go to extra time. Howard has a bazillion saves today.
