And Georgia Southern is thinking about no longer being an all girls school. Though the ladies are fine.COGS

Though the UCF's move was as an FBS independent then as a FB-only member of the MAC, and that looks like its turning out OK.

It probably eased the transition to be located in recruit-rich Florida.

UCF is not one of the last 9 schools to move up.
1. USA
2. Texas State
3. UTSA
4. Georgia State
5 Georgia Southern
6. AppSt
7. ODU
8. UNCC

Each of the above moved up as also sports members of the FBS Football conference.

9. UMASS

Only moved football. As has been posted by another poster, a football associate membership in FBS only averages right at 4 years.

Merged "#12" thread with this one as they were duplicate threads.

I didn't say it was. Indeed, a number of the "last 9" had not moved yet when UMass moved up, and wouldn't have moved up if the Old Big East hadn't collapsed, taking a massive bite out of Conference USA in its desperate effort to reload.

Indeed, if the Old Big East had taken more time collapsing, Temple and UMass would have played at least a season together in a 14/12 MAC, and the option to ask UMass to either join all-sports or toddle along would not have come up until next season or the season after.

Which of those eight had not yet been invited at the time that UMass moved up? You look like you are complaining that UMass did not have perfect 20/20 future vision to see a coming trend.

So in essence you are not heading to Savannah anytime this decade.

So would an actual vote on adding a 12th team happen at the meetings, or do they just discuss it there?

Could happen either way. More than likely if it seems something will pass they will vote while there.

Yeah, they might vote to get a fence sitter off the fence ... but if it there are clearly three no votes, then its just a question of whether they would rather make it official or just table the issue until next year.

Read this article this morning.
Would UMass really give up it's million a year as some have suggested?
Doubt it.

Yeah, agree. Think they are wanting SBC football membership more than they would even say in public. Going independent might very well be the death kneel of UMass football in FBS. Especially if for more than a year or two.

being an independent has worked out ok for byu and notre dame. I'm not sure what the advantage would be for umass to be in a g5 conference whereby most of their games would be against schools their fans have no interest in. as an independent they could put together a nice schedule for football. home and homes against big name teams like utsa was able to get would be better for their program.
