Would be an odd move IMO if he ended up at FAU. I think the guy has big time potential, so I'm surprised he'd entertain leaving NCCU at this point for anything but a fairly high caliber job.

This is NOT to sound insensitive in the least, but perhaps he's expecting long periods of medical expenses after what happened to his son and is thinking a lot more about cash flow??

Taking care of his child would certainly be among the few things that would trump his passion for NCCU.

Fair point and very possible.

Also, just saw an article on the Observer site that Lutz has emerged as the leading candidate. First time I've seen this outside of this/the App message boards.

Here it is, I guess we may know by next week if he is the new guy due to the state's hiring rules.

Am kind of surprised. Lutz just hasn't shown the ability to do what seems necessary at the App State bb program.
It's not going to be a walk in the park.

If you guys hire Lutz, he needs to interview assistants he has never worked with before. His assistants were always pretty awful. He has admitted himself that he doesn't like recruiting, so he needs to hire some young energetic guys that like to get after it on the recruiting trail. If he does that, I think he'll be fine.

If he goes back to the Lutz tree, then he might be a disaster.

You just reminded me of why I have had fear of Lutz. Remember hearing this previously. Thanks 9'er.

I loved the bid with your play by play guy. I guess he feels overworked?

She took a team that was bottom of the SoCon and took them to 2 SoCon titles. However she just couldn't win the SoCon finals those years. Still, the women's team is more fun to watch than the men's team.

Also, I have no doubt Darcie could kick Capel's ass. She's from the Pat Summit school of charm.

And yes, David Jackson, our PBP guy and associate AD, does a lot of work. Every time I talk to him he rattles off a list of things he's done that week like it was nothing.

Lutz has withdrawn his name from the search.....maybe seen as a good thing since he is a sort of a known quantity around the area.

We'll probably never know but I wonder if it is because App is going to offer someone else and he is just saving face, if App didn't offer enough $, or if there is another reason.

His daughter goes to state and pay being top assistant at NCSU vs HC at App is minimal.

While our school is prepared to pay a good amount for the right guy. What Lutz makes as an assistant at State was likely around the amount we were willing to go up to for his services. He is a known quantity and he lacks a bit on the recruiting trail. The only plus to Lutz was he would have likely hung around longer if he did make App a winner again since he is from the area and is older.

In my opinion a up and rising younger coach from the D2 ranks who has already completed a rebuild is what is needed to come in. Hopefully Charlie is barking up that tree.

My guess he looked at the huge rebuilding task ahead of him, complete with probable scholarship loss from Capel's pathetic APR scores, and at 58 wasn't crazy about undertaking such a big job.

I'm not mad about missing out on Lutz. I was always iffy on him. Would love to hire McMahon but for some reason Cobb is so against it. Moton would be dope too.

One name that has surfaced is former South Carolina and WKU coach Darrin Horn. I would assume he would bring some knowledge about the SBC to the job. He was not very successful at USC but did seem to have some good teams with the Hilltoppers.

It took us between 3 and 4 weeks to hire Fritz as our football coach. The longer it takes the more likely numerous people have turned the job down.

Horn looks pretty good. Played and coached at WKU. Guess there would be chance he might want to go back some day. Moved to Lexington after leaving South Carolina. South Carolina has been the pits for basketball coaches forever.
