RE: Ideal Conference Draft - 2014
I will take Auburn.

Round One
Medic - Florida State
Beta - Michigan
BBB - Texas
Phog - Ohio State
Wedge - Florida
Zombie - LSU
H1 - Notre Dame
Jhawk - Southern Cal

Round 2
Jhawk - Oklahoma
H1 - Alabama
Zombie - Stanford
Wedge - North Carolina
Phog - Texas A&M
BBB - UCLA
Beta - Georgia
Medic -South Carolina

Round 3
Medic - Penn state
Beta - Wisconsin
BBB - Washington
Phog - Michigan State
Wedge - Tennessee
Zombie - Auburn
H1 -
Jhawk -

For the record, my next pick was going to be Michigan State, thinking I might be able to get Auburn with my Rd. 4 pick. When Phog took them, I couldn't wait. I have two in mind for my next choice (they have a lot in common), but watch both of them be gone. 03-banghead

I am going with a regional pick that seems necessary and goes quite well with my Notre Dame pick.

It's Catholics vs Convicts!

Miami Hurricanes are no longer available.

RE: Ideal Conference Draft - 2014
That leaves me with Louisville.

Round One
Medic - Florida State
Beta - Michigan
BBB - Texas
Phog - Ohio State
Wedge - Florida
Zombie - LSU
H1 - Notre Dame
Jhawk - Southern Cal

Round 2
Jhawk - Oklahoma
H1 - Alabama
Zombie - Stanford
Wedge - North Carolina
Phog - Texas A&M
BBB - UCLA
Beta - Georgia
Medic -South Carolina

Round 3
Medic - Penn state
Beta - Wisconsin
BBB - Washington
Phog - Michigan State
Wedge - Tennessee
Zombie - Auburn
H1 - Ole Miss
Jhawk - Kansas

Round 4
Jhawk - Oregon
H1 - Miami
Zombie - Louisville
Wedge -
Phog -
BBB -
Beta -

I had actually written another school, then hastily changed it. If Wedge saw it (since he is the only other person on the thread now), then I suppose I will change it back. Otherwise, I'm sticking with the last entrant to the P5 dance.

RE: Ideal Conference Draft - 2014
Well, Phog, this year I would call us a yellow belly instead of blue blood!

This is where the picks get difficult; so many good schools, but everyone has at least one wart. When in doubt, go with one of the best schools in the world in one of the most resource rich areas of the world. In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather have them in my conference than a school that only brings a sport and population and little else. I'll take California.

They were on my radar, but when Kansas and Oregon were taken, my choice was between Kentucky and Louisville. I had already written Kentucky when I reminded myself that Louisville had credible programs in football, basketball and baseball, while Kentucky could only regularly be counted on during basketball. Hated to go that way, because of my longstanding dislike of Louisville on the playing fields, but I had to go with my gut, which is ample.

RE: Ideal Conference Draft - 2014
Cal was also on my radar. Since this is a "from scratch" exercise rather than being seeded from a starting point (which could actually be another interesting game to play - start with partial base conferences assembled by a game moderator and build on them from there), there are a lot of factors that go into making selections, and at this point there are still a lot of good choices depending on the criteria you're using at the moment.
