I'll play along. So since not expanding isn't an option, then the leadership must feel like they could lose another school. What makes you think Lamar has the resources to make the move? Why not make your intentions public and release a master plan for the next 5-10 years detailing how you'd make the move IF you were fortunate enough to receive an invite? I realize there is money in the area, but I'm not convinced people will pony up the amount of funds needed to compete middle to top of the league..... I'm not looking for another bottom dweller, I want someone who can win conference in a few years
I expect this type of question from the eastern members. You know darn well Lamar pockets are deep. Lamar would be one of the top SBC schools in wealth.
Didn't people say that when Lamar brought back football in the Southland? I know your stadium can be expanded, where are the plans to do so? And last I saw your budget was around $15M, you'll have to increase that to be a top school in the Belt

I would expect both to take place also, the problem is that both need to be in place before an invite is extended. Waiting for an invite before starting the upgrades shows no commitment therefore no invite will be extended. That is just the facts Jack.

Before Texas State was offered by the WAC, we had already announced our campaign, "The Drive to FBS" where we had a series of waves that would occur in order to make us ready for the move.
That's where this beautiful rendering of bobcat stadium came from
I'm looking for vision here - some of the most vision I've seen came from UTSA and I think they set the standard for building and transitioning a program

I would like to see something like "The Drive" which is targeted toward athletics even if we stay where we are.
My hope is with the completion of our "Investing for the Future" campaign, which was directed primarily at academics with some athletics, we'll be presented with a new goal. In my opinion, that campaign which raised $132,000,000 from 2006 to 2013, energized support for the University. It was and is a point of pride as well. As mentioned in a previous post, that campaign started with a $50,000,000 goal, then a $100,000,000 goal, then a $125,000,000 goal...as each of the goals were met and exceeded before the campaign end.
I think a focused campaign like "The Drive" is a very good way to do things. Our "Investing in the Future" campaign began a "silent phase" in early 2006 with some strong supporters who made an initial commitment to get things kicked off. The full plan was announced to the public in mid 2008.
At any rate, according to the US Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education database, our current expenses as an FCS program are not out of range to make an FBS run a "pipe dream". According to that file, we're higher than some current FBS members who have had success and near several others.

utsa built nothing and had even less..what they had was the gumption to hire a good coach and commit the effort and funds to start up a football team. being the only game in town they were able to get the city fathers and local football fans to get on board. a smart move for them because they were able to leapfrog texas state and uta to a little more prominant league. the idea of playing games in the alamo dome in san antonio is so appealing that they were able to schedule home games against the biggest names in football. many of whom would never consider traveling to the other cusa schools. made them a must have for cusa..you guys are bringing up schools that have little or no upside for the conference. I think we should hold fast untill we can get nmsu all sports and maybe add mo state.
