What the Big East should be doing is getting start up bowls in the east coast like in St Pete or Tampa.
But at the end of the day who goes or wins the Houston Bowl would not amount to much in the leagues image or amount of Bowl revenue.

Maybe not, but it's not boding well for the BE that over the past 2 weeks you've potentially lost 2 bowl slots that were supposed to be wrapped up.

And let's be honest- besides the BCS Champ. game nobody really remembers who won what bowl besides the teams fans' involved.

Actually if the Houston Bowl is saved it helps the Big East in regards to the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Normally Navy goes to the Poinsettia Bowl but if the Houston Bowl goes down then the Big XII would make a play for the Poinsettia Bowl.

So if the HB is saved the Big XII will send a team to Houston, Navy heads to San Diego and the Big East Number 3 goes to Charlotte if I am not mistaken.

I know that you and other CUSA posters love to see any news of the demise of the Big East. The key word in your post was "potential". Ill wait until we get official news of whats really going to happen.
Its funny that in a large city like Houston with more than 1 major newspaper, no printed news of these new arrangement hjas come up yet eventhough you say its being reported by MANY Houston TV news. Since you dont live in Houston it means you are passing along info. that you have not personally seen nor read.

Yeah, because losing the Houston Bowl is the end of the world. The Tire Bowl is still a Big East bowl. Navy MIGHT be able to get a deal for ONE year. Maybe.

Yeah, nobody is talking about Georgia vs West Virginia except the majority of the media and ESPN Classic. Take away that and the Big East is falling apart right? LOL! It's funny that in one sentence you brag about the Big East bowl situation supposedly falling apart and then in the next sentence downgrade the importance of bowl games.

IMO, it is BE's best interests to establish a Florida Bowl against a BCS oppoenent. SEC has three teams pledged to Liberty, Independence, and Music Bowls. The Liberty has the highest payout. And Big 10 #6 will face no better than SEC #7 or #8 in Music Bowl. I think the Big 10 would be quite receptive to a Florida Bowl played after Xmas against BE in Tampa.

The Houston Bowl was a quick and short term fix for BE...in the long run, the Houston Bowl does not make sense for BE. A similar situation regarding georgraphy is the Palmetto Bowl which ACC had established with CUSA as the opponent....to get away from traveling across the country to Boise. Distant geography doesn't work for bowls at the lower level bowl level.

Regarding the Houston Bowl, I hope it survives and that CUSA can be an annual part of it. Because of short travel times and alumni living in the city or close by, UTEP brought 20,000 fans to Houston Bowl and Tulsa brought 15,000 fans to Memphis. If Houston Bowl survives and is indeed a CUSA bowl (all conjecture at this point), I think Houston Bowl looked at these figures and the reality of the situation...the probable good attendance of Houston U and Rice....and that georgraphy just makes too much sense for Houston Bowl.

I would like a Florida Bowl for CUSA also, either with BE or another BCS conference.

Today's problem is tomorrow's opportunity. There is no doubt BE will come up with a fourth bowl....better than anything now on the table including Houston Bowl. BE has continued to surprise since its convulsion and re-establishment. No doubt it will again do so. Regarding CUSA, it too has surprised and, like BE, the future is very promising.

Quite touchy, aren't we?

What I am commenting on is the boasting of your bowl games just 3 weeks ago, and now many fans' attempts to downplay the importance of the bowl games in question that may have left the BE's slate.

As for people remember the bowls- go ask your AVERAGE joe blow on the street who won the Sugar Bowl and I can assure you they'd be hard pressed to even remember who PLAYED. This is not a slam on the BE so stop taking it as one. The fact is that your average fan remembers Texas/USC and a bunch of other games leading up to it.

And, if you don't care about the Houston Bowl, then fine. But the fact remains that it may be one bowl slot less for the BE which you may care about if your team is the last one left out. I can assure you that fans traveling to bowl games to watch their teams play aren't caring about the payout- they're caring about the experience.

This decade, there has never been a BE team with a winning record, and not be invited to a bowl..

Well for 4 years of this decade, the BE was a much different league.

What difference does that make? The point is that no BE team has been left out with a winning record. I dont think a BE team with a winning record has ever been left out. Even in 2004 when VT and Miami were in the acc, the BE sent 5 of 7 teams to bowls. As has been the case, you will for the most part continue to see teams with winning records from cusa, Mac, MWC and Wac get left out before a team from the BE gets left out. It doesnt matter how many bowls are affiliated with the BE. The reason is that there will always be a couple of bcs conferences that will not be able to fulfil there bowl schedules.

You have to understand, these are the same Central Florida fans that are claiming up and down that C-USA is a superior football conference then the Big East. And that C-USA can improve and have upside, but the Big East CAN'T improve and doesn't have upside. People try to talk about the Big East's new teams, but UC, even with their attendance problems, were getting bowl bids in C-USA ahead of MAC, MWC and WAC teams. Easily. So it stands to reason that that will improve now that UC is in the Big East. And it stands to reason the same will go for South Florida and UConn.

Ummm, no I don't. Because, the last time I checked, there are 12 teams in the SEC. And Rutgers is in the Big East. You know, perennial doormat Rutgers? Except they weren't a doorman this year. And, unlike Vanderbilt, USF, Cincinnati and UConn have all gone to bowl games in the last year. But since you're so keen on bringing up Vanderbilt, last I checked Cincinnati, South Florida and Connecticut haven't dismantled their athletic administration like Vanderbilt did. Get the drift?

It's only for the uneducated who want to swear up and down that the Big East teams can't improve and somehow Vanderbilt is proof. Yet Cincinnati, Connecticut and South Florida have all recently gone to bowl games. Vanderbilt hasn't. Vandy is the only SEC school that hasn't cheated in the last 15 years. I mean it's idiotic to use Vanderbilt as an example, but when you don't have another argument I guess we have to put up with it.

Yeah, because losing the Houston Bowl is the end of the world. The Tire Bowl is still a Big East bowl. Navy MIGHT be able to get a deal for ONE year. Maybe.

And let's be honest- besides the BCS Champ. game nobody really remembers who won what bowl besides the teams fans' involved.

Cat, Vandy is in the sec as well...get the drift?

Ummm, no I don't. Because, the last time I checked, there are 12 teams in the SEC. And Rutgers is in the Big East. You know, perennial doormat Rutgers? Except they weren't a doorman this year. And, unlike Vanderbilt, USF, Cincinnati and UConn have all gone to bowl games in the last year. But since you're so keen on bringing up Vanderbilt, last I checked Cincinnati, South Florida and Connecticut haven't dismantled their athletic administration like Vanderbilt did. Get the drift?

Do you really think if USF, UC, and UConn were in the SEC they would even be SNIFFING bowl bids? No- because you'd be getting demolished every week.

Get the drift?
