RE: App State coming to a stadium near you...
ODU, yet an infant in the college football Universe, has made a very deliberate and calculated plan to insert us into the conversation as a relevant regional football program. Our administration has taken the future vision of ODU's FBS Football footprint into account in the planning of a new state of the art stadium on the water with restaurants, museums, harbor views, walk ways, escalators and elevators. A Hall of Fame Visitors Center (all sports), that will be incorporated into a concourse to enhance the overall game day experience when fans visit the stadium. The overall goal, of course, is to entice even more support from Alumni, donors, fans and students.
On the recruiting front Wilder and staff have sold future recruits with the Universities vision. We are a program that has and is creating a winning tradition. Our staff has a clear goal and direction for our programs success. ODU will be able to wet the appetite of recruits with a Stadium that will be second to none (a 21st century stadium with amenities). Perhaps small by FBS standards (30 - 35 K), the administration desires to create a one of a kind gate way to the University incorporating the new stadiums vision.
I mention the above only because it is al relevant when it comes to scheduling. ODU has and will continue to secure ....
1st regional FBS programs with home and home contracts.
1). NC state, VA Tech, UVA, and ECU. All have become high priorities for ODU's future OOC schools.
2). ACC and other BCS schools in the eastern part of the Mid- Atlantic and south, (Duke, Wake, UNC, Vanderbilt, Maryland and Pittsburg).
3) Other programs from the AAC and MAC.
4). One FCS program each year at home.
I think, just as the contract that is being negotiated with VA Tech, a few will be along the lines of 2017 and beyond.
Our vision is clear....Aim High Monarchs

The rumors we are hearing down here is that its ECU and Charlotte. Not sure who the Mac school is.
ECU is not in CUSA or the MAC.
I have no problem playing ASU in Greenville. If we go to Boone now?..our AD needs his head examined.
I agree in Greenville...they claim they brought 8,000 last time so I will be happy to take 8,000 x $50.00 for $400,000 of ASU fan's money.

We had a 43k seat stadium the 1st year when App brought so many people that at the time that sold out every summer before the season even started. They didn't get an 8k allotment, what you had was thousands of ECU fans selling out the program and hawking their tickets and heading to the beach that holiday weekend because they really didn't care about the game. If we had opened with the BCS teams we normally play I doubt you would have seen this or any need for help selling out our 43k seat stadium at the time for an opening game.
I seriously don't get the love affair with wanting some teams to bring 8k fans to our stadium or Holland pitching it as a positive and people eating that garbage up. If UNC brought 8k to our 43k stadium you think people would have cheered that on considering thousands of ECU fans sold out an made other plans. The people that cashed out was not ECU but the pirate fans that sold their tickets and probably for more than 50 bucks.

No thanks. No desire to go to Boone, NC.

Unless something radically has changed, its not Marshall. Besides, the game with Appy State is no longer a rival game. Both schools have moved on in different directions. Last time we played them we had our 3rd string defense in at the start of the 4th quarter.
As far as scheduling goes, we are fully booked through 2017 assuming there is no snag in extending the Marshall/Ohio football series in 2016.
Marshall and ECU should be working on a series before either gives Appalacian State the time of day.... Even if they are HOT!!! HOT!!! HOT!!!

Louisville isn't in the 'Murica. Rutgers isn't either. Maryland isn't in the ACC. WKU isn't in the Sun Belt. Tulsa and Tulane arnt in CUSA. It's crazy they are all list that way though.

Last time I checked, ECU is still in CUSA.......
considering we do not have any open games for the 2013 season (the only games left as a CUSA football team) we will not be a CUSA football team in a few more weeks after we host and win the Championship game on the way out....so the post should read 1 CUSA team, 1 future AAC team and a MAC team.

Nothing wrong with that OT. Cudos to having a plan. Many times schools lack long term vision. It sounds as if the AD is a businessman.
I will however say that I think Wilder's comments that NO 2 for 1 arrangements are acceptable... is very short sighted and foolish. He is fine coach...but...If I was an alum?...I would prefer that my coach leave that part of the football program to the boss.
There would be nothing wrong with a 2 for 1 deal with your instate schools or even regional foes that you directly recruit against. To close that avenue is an extremely questionable policy IMO. What happens if they pull a Nancy Reagan?
If ODU can manage to avoid any deals?...my hat is off to them. Unfortunately that is not the norm in college athletics for most non power conference programs....including ECU. I wish you luck with that policy.

Considering they're talking about future schedules/seasons... it is exactly that... those schools are all shuffling conferences in July; and thus for the discussion of future schedules those schools are no longer in their current conferences!

And we do have an opening in 2015 and beyond.

That would be b/c of your own program, not the large contingent of App fans that would show up.

ASU fans will do very well following their team while playing other NC teams. I would not make that claim outside of the state any more than I would with ECU fans. It will depend on the opponent and venue. MT? ummm I doubt they will bring a huge contingent. It will be interesting to see if that happens.
