And somehow yet another thread with absolutely nothing to do with Ohio U. turns into all about them...07-coffee3

English: He's gone, it's only a matter of time until he's let go by EMU.

Quinn: UB looks like they've turned their season around after a few rough games to open with, but if the Bulls don't go bowling he's in trouble.

Wish Treadwell the best and wish he wasn't fired until after next week. I like our chances of winning with him as HC.

I was thinking the same thing about our game two weeks from now. 05-stirthepot

Miami fans: do you think that he-who-must-not-be-named (Tim Rose) has earned his name back? For all of his sins, at least he won the MAC one year, beat LSU, and was somewhat competitive most of the time.

Should be on speed dial: Lance Leipold

Anyway, I think this is a very good move by Miami. Shows they're serious about winning. It will be a positive in the locker room and for recruiting.

Mike Singletary. I think he put together more of the 49ers than he's given credit for. But, his lustre is not as bright since being their HC. Singletary and Zook together might be good (or a complete disaster.)

Mike Singletary? He turned down his own alma mater (Baylor) a few years ago but is going to take this job? Some of these other names tossed around are also laughable.

You really think he has the same cache as then?

Besides, didn't his son go to Kent St?

No, Chris Singletary was not his son.

RE: Miami Fires Treadwell
In his press conference today AD David Saylor mentioned that his preference is to hire someone with head coaching experience. He did not rule out a BCS co-ordinator, but they would really have to blow everyone else away. I still think he will go for a successful coach from a lower level school. Right now both Miami's men and women's coachs have that background. David Saylor himself has moved up from a smaller school to Miami. Of course, saying he wants someone with head coaching experience does not rule out names lke Zook or Kiffin or Heywood, I just do not think he will go that way.

Since whoever will be our next head coach is probably coaching a team right now, I do not expect a hiring until the season is over.

You guys are disappointing. For a brainstorming session on a message board, you're pretty boring. There's a huge difference between suggesting Mike Singletary versus Mike McCarthy. Heck, you might even at least argue that Singletary wouldn't be a good head coach (he might not be).

I don't claim to know anything about Singletary's ambitions or interests, but to strike him from a list, especially w/ Miami U's legacy of coaches, is premature. No one expected Solich to go to OIHO, and almost no one predicted Bowden to Akron. It would be worthwhile, and a compliment to the MAC for teams to pursue high profile candidates.

At any rate, since we're talking about Mikes, I'd add Haywood. But I will concede, no point in talking to Ditka.

So,

M. Haywood,
L. Leipold,
M. Singletary

oh yeah, there's a guy named Tressel who has had success coaching in OH.

RE: Miami Fires Treadwell
Tressel would be a dream hire for Miami, he would give our program instant credibility and would build us to respectability again. Alas, his show-clause penalty runs until 2016, and I can't see any way that Sayler could convince the NCAA that we had no choice but to hire Mr. Sweatervest.

I think Curt Cignetti is a great option for us to explore. Has been very successful thus far as HC of Indiana-Pennsylvania (DII), dad is a HOF coach, great resume of coaching jobs (QB coach of Phillip Rivers at NC State, WR coach of Julio Jones at Alabama, recruiting coordinator at Alabama).

I don't think Tressel comes back unless it is a BCS offer, which based on some things I have read that could be easy early as next season. What's the deal with Zook? Is that a realistic name or just wishful thinking? The guy can definitely recruit and would seem like a good fit on the surface. Would further anchor the MAC East which is much needed.

RE: Miami Fires Treadwell
Miami's legacy of coaches is history and those guys walked the campus prior to making it big, not after an NFL HC or USC gig. To waste time and energy to suggest some of these names is ridiculous IMO. I'd be looking at coordinators at big programs that may have ties to the program or even a successful coach at a smaller program 1AA or DII like a Brian Kelly on his way up, or like suggested Cignetti.

RE: Miami Fires Treadwell
Having Zook come back to finish out his career might be somewhat simliar to what happened at OU with Solich...the difference (to me) is that Solich was a more succesful Head Coach at Nebraska than Zook was at Florida/Illinois. That said, with Zook's recruiting ability, he might be able to get good enough athletes to contend for MAC titles without great game management skills so long as he has motivational skills. Again, I don't propose to know.

I also like the concept of hiring a lower division Head Coach (vs. a big program O or D coordinator), as you'd then have a better idea of his overall leadership and program management skills. We've hired a couple of O coordinator type guys who ended up really lacking in leadership.
