EMU should not be allowed to hang around with that level attendance year after year. Bad patches are fine, but they are not even flirting with FBS numbers over the last few years.

Wish them the best, but lets get real.

It worked when we were 0-1 and put in a good showing against MSU. We will see if it works this weekend when we are 0-4 after losing the previous home game to a 1aa school 03-puke

It isn't like they are consistently 1 or 2 thousand below the rest of the MAC. They are consistently so far back you would think they are not even an FBS program. You could double their attendance and they still not be in an area any FBS program should be in 1 year, let alone every year.

Heck, you could TRIPLE their attendance and they would still be behind the team that just came up from FCS and plays their game over an hour away from campus. Their are better options out there.

They get a pass here, their automated ticket counting machine is broken and a retired faculty member says they had more people than they're giving themselves credit.03-shhhh

Yep, we might as well enjoy that "top spot" for now, because our number is going to start tanking next Saturday. Especially if the weather's lousy (although very early indications are that it'll be beautiful and 70+).

That said, despite Fleck's cringe-worthy string of boat references, he did succeed in getting an uptick of interest/buzz in the new season over the summer. But that won't amount to squat if the product on the field is a dumpster fire.

RE: MAC Attendance- September
That'll obviously be Miami's largest crowd of year...be surprised if we can average 15K by year end. It was a beautiful September day and the home opener, and UC brought a nice contingent of fans as well. I had family at the game and they said the environment was pretty good through most of the game due to Miami's defense and specical teams, but our offensive scheme is so horrendous it eventually was a very hard game to watch if you are a RedHawk fan. Also, our punter is top notch and boomed out an 88 yard punt. (and he gets a lot of practice during the games!).

-Raining hard all morning (rules out sitting on the hill).

-3rd week in a row of home FB games.

-Austin Peay, an opponent with a 100% guaranteed victory.

Peden has 22-24,000 real seats. Using your logic, why did The Ohio State University football team sell out their game with the same situation as OU?

Peden has 21,000 real seats not counting the Hill.

Columbus has x50 times the population of Athens. That is why they can sell out a 100,000 seat stadium.

Hey, I'm not "throwing any stones" given the state of Miami's program and the liklihood that we'll be seeing crowds of 8K tops later this season...it's just fun to tease the Kitten fans a ittle about attendance after all the threads about how SO the tickets were and all. And besides, in all the "flagship" threads and enrollment threads, wasn't Athens proximity to Columbush noted on more than one occasion??

stop making excuses. Attendance for Norfolk St last year was 23,673. It was parents' weekend this week, should have been a bigger crowd but it was cold and rainy at game time. It happens.

Well the OU web site says that the seating capacity is 24,000

The stadium, then known as the Ohio University's Athletic Plant, was built in 1929 with two side units that seated 12,000 people. In 1986, major renovations enlarged the permanent seating capacity to 19,000. In 1990, the five-story tower was constructed. In 2001, the playing field was lowered and seating capacity increased to 24,000.
http://www.ohio.edu/athens/bldgs/stadium.html

It must be very discouraging to see attendance drop down below 20,000 this early in the season?

I guess I thought Peden's official capacity was 24K as well. I don't think you can count lawn areas as seats...just standing room only. BSU has the same kidn of thing and pretty sure they only list the actual seats in the stadium for capacity's sake.

Go ahead and count the seats. Now that the ticketing system is online you can do it.

I have counted the seats and total is 21,000. The stadium sat 19,000 before the addition of Peden Tower (800 seats) and Phillips Club (1,200). The remaining space including the endzones is SRO.

Trust me. Go ahead and count the seats.
