BG - 13,799

I flat out don't buy these numbers.

UB I believe seats around 23K, not counting the end zone seating, which are almost completely empty and essentially not used.

23K would have looked like seating at an UofM or OSU game and believe me, 1/2 of that crowd must have been at the concessions or restrooms because they weren't in their seats.

What makes you think those schools did not sell that amount of tickets?
Does EMU always report those in attendance rather than tickets sold?

'Cause even though I was born at night but it wasn't last night.

UB is having the concerts so they might be getting some ticket sales who show up as 'empty seats' for the FB game.

The only way Akron could get 19K for a MAC FB game this year is to... (fill in the blank, and please be outrageous).

MIA 22K for their team?????? 03-lmfao

The only way Akron could get 19K or Miami 22K is if they could host an arm wrestling match between Obama and Cruz at half time.

EMU, as many know, have a deal with a corporate sponsor to buy tickets the over, overwhelming majority are not used, but at least EMU fans don't come here and pretend they actually saw phantom butts in seats. It is what it is and most EMU posters know it...

Sigh.

But the numbers are not claimed to be people in the stadiums. They are announced attendance figures which are something else entirely. I haven't seen anyone here claim the numbers represent the actual number of people in the stands. Who specifically are you calling out on this? I thought it was understood the number meant tickets sold.

RE: MAC Attendance- September
Akron didn't have 19k there but I don't doubt they sold 19k. It was homecoming. Every MAC school (except the CC) should be able to sell a respectable amount of tickets on homecoming, even if the home team is bad. Now when if it rains like it did Saturday, I wouldn't expect those people to show, but that isn't how attendance is counted.

Also, Akron benefited from playing Ohio. I took advantage of the season ticket holder free tickets.. But a lot of casual Ohio fans are more likely to go to a MAC away game (like Akron or Kent) than an Ohio home game because such a large % of our alumni are from Northeast Ohio. For instance, I am 20 minutes from Akron but almost 3 hours from Athens. I saw some friends who I know haven't been to an Ohio home game at the Akron game. I am sure we sold more tickets than people actually showed as well.. I am sure there were some Ohio fans who bought tickets then didn't come because of rain.

True, but what is Miami Yeah claiming with his post? What is his point?

EMU numbers require footnotes, asterisks, etc.: They are butts in seats when they are not using tickets sold, using a corporate sponsor, EVERY OTHER year to meet the NCAA 15K average every two years.. There is a real algorithm to what EMU does. The numbers are not produced by a random number generator.

Sometimes they are butts in seats and sometimes they are tickets "sold". Have to know the difference.

Let me ask a question:

Are any of those numbers inflated, such as EMU's corporate purchases, to meet the NCAA's 15K rule? If so, are they numbers as 'suspect' as when EMU announced 23,000 in November for a meaningless game?

With Miami Yeah's post, without qualification, those numbers can be apples, oranges, peaches, tomatoes, etc. and we don't know what is what.

Actually the EMU people were claiming their attendance figures were understated. So instead of saying they had a fanny in every seat/ticket announced, they claim to be more people there than tickets counted.

It was Akron's home coming. Why are these attendance numbers arguments always the same- most (all?) schools report tickets sold, not buts in seats.

What I wish we had transparent and up to date info on re:attendance was gate revenue.

EMU fans should refrain from posting on the attendance of other programs in the league until they can outdraw Division III St. Johns with regularity. I believe that is a mandate from the league office.

RE: MAC Attendance- September
It was Parent's weekend at Miami, traditionally the biggest crowd of the year with many folks buying in advance. It'll be our last well attended game as well....I'd be surprised if we can average mush more than 10-12K each game the rest of the way...we may be able to eke out a 15K average for the whole year.
